Add bluetooth to 04-05 TSX with aftermarket amp?

So about this time last year I did an overhaul of my stereo system. I added the "mercman cable," speakers, and an amp.

Now I'm interested in adding a parrot bluetooth system to the car and I have no idea how to do it with this aftermarket setup.

Does anybody with a similar setup have knowledge or experience adding an aftermarket bluetooth system?

Thanks!

you must install it after your amplifier. you really only have to interrupt the front speakers. use a relay and trigger the amp off while you make/receive calls.

So is this an entirely plug and play solution I can't tell if this cable takes care of the relays or if there is anything additional I will need to add.

its hard to tell just from that pic. is there anything there dealing with a mute wire? what needs to happen basically is the remote turn on lead to your amp must be turned off while youre receiving a call/making a call/using the bluetooth thing at all so that the only audio from the bluetooth can be sent to the speakers. so the harness is good for interrupting the speaker wires and doing so neatly. can you post a link to the manual for the device maybe?

ok after looking at the harness again it looks like it goes behind the OEM radio. if you have an OEM amp it prolly wont work. if youre installing your own aftermarket amp, then you can just run your wires there and you should be fine.

I have an aftermarket amp in the trunk, and a rather complicated mute wire setup under the backseat. In the area near the factory head unit, I still have all of the factory connectors (speaker and radio harness) because I am using "mercman's cable" and a honda speaker wire harness. So if I have all of the factory connectors on an aftermarket setup, where does that leave me?

I can't find a manual for the bluetooth device or the harness so it's hard to tell what actually needs to happen. I don't want to buy the things and just have to return it and eat the forward and reverse shipping costs.

I feel like an idiot for not knowing what to do here because not only did I install the entire sound system myself last year but I'm an electrical engineer at an audio company

Are you also running a BALUN or did you get an amp that accepts the balanced inputs?

Yes, also using a balun. How does that effect things?

Hi Max,
Did you also use the Civic harness or the speaker connections or did you run your own wires to the speakers? That harness says it is for non-amplified systems but then it lists the TSX? Basically, the system has a relay to switch the front speakers to the BT when you get/make a call. I did not see a mute wire mentioned but it is a good idea to shut the amp off during the call. More info like a wiring diagram would be good.

Jeff,

Good to see you back on the boards.

Max,

You might want to check this harness out. It's what I'm currently using on my 05 TSX with the OEM audio system and Parrot MK6100. Its made for vehicles using an external amp, OEM and I'm assuming aftermarket as well.

Looking at this page (as an example):

http://www.safewireless.com/hands-fr...-kit-p-10.html

The package includes:

1 radio mute cable with line output (ISO cable)

This is where the BALUN comes in handy....

You could then use something like this:

http://www.smarthome.com/97252728/LL...TL02001/p.aspx

To switch the audio signal on the front speakers, and use the mute signal to cut out the signal to the rear speakers. If your going to use a relays to do this, you might want to put a 100k-1M resistor in the signal path, and wire a relay that is normally closed (NC) in parallel with it. This would significantly attenuate the signal rather than turning it off completely, but would probably avoid loud pops when it clicks on/off.

That would have to go between the BALUN and the amp. If you had an amp that already had balanced in this would not be so easy.

Jeff

I'm using the Civic harness.

Here is the only info I can get from the site. Sorry about the PDF form, I'm at work and can't get a decent screen cap:

http://www.parrot.com/documents/parr...ide_zone_c.pdf
(page 5 specifically)

Thanks

Thanks, this seems like it could be useful, but I'm running out of places to hide peripherals in the car so I'll try to find a more compact solution first

I definitely like the idea of attenuating the signal to avoid the pops!

This looks really good actually...any way to tell if its going to work with my aftermarket (unbalanced) amp?

So what's the verdict? Is this harness and the parrot unit all that I need?

Sorry Max, I wish I could answer your question about using it on an unbalanced amp. I can only go by experience with the OEM system since that's what I have right now. You could try sending a PM to Travis (Uncald4) and see if he might know if it'll work.

Thanks for the hit Johnny.

Max I replied to your email. That Y harness with the hi/low will work perfect.

Thanks for the info guys. So now it's time for a couple noob questions...

1) Does the radio need to be on for the call to come through, and does it need to be on a particular input
2) Can I do all of the wiring up front or am I going to need to tear apart the back again?
3) Will this harness take care of muting the amp, or do I still need a solution for that?
4) I have the SNHOND3 aux-in on my CD-C port, does that matter?

The radio does not need to be on but your amps will need to be. The Parrot sends it's own audio signal and does not need the radio.

All the wiring will be done right behind the deck.

The Parrot mutes the signal when a call comes in.

The Parrot and Y harness are only using the main power/speaker harness and will not affect your CD changer port.
