Acceptable installation rates..
Hi guys.
My 97 2.2 CL stock(non-Bose) headunit went PE-0 a few months back. I've been wanting to upgrade the stock audio system for a while now, but just been holding out because I'm sure my innocent face will get me ripped off at the shops. I'm still a student, which means I need the music but can't afford it
anyway, I was just thinking about replacing the headunit with an Alpine CDA9856, and connect my iRiver mp3/jukebox to the aux input, but I might get better deals if I buy a pair of component (Alpine 61/2 Type-R) speakers and 9x6 Type-S. I also want to Dynamat the doors. Don't know what type of amp might be good with this setup, but either way, I was just curious what type of installation rates or total cost I should walk out with?
These guys will try to milk me for every penny they can. Thats an unfair statement, cause I know they got to maintain their business or whatever. But I've gotten crappy sales people trying to sell me crappy shit (because they think I'm stupid) and I'm not ready to $50 because they are going to connect an Aux Input cable to a HU they are going to be installing anyway. Also, they'll be like "yeah, your car will need a SPECIAL this and SPECIAL that" which is bullshit
I wish there was a Street Effects or El Duderino's shop around here in So Cali. I'm going to go to Al and Ed's Autosound. IF they are too expensive, I might have to settle for best buy as they sell the products I'm looking for.
Thanks in advance!

Too many times people choose a shop because of cost, and they end up spending more in the end to fix a problem. Happens all the time to www.innovativerides.com
I would choose a shop that is known for good work and that will stand behind the products they sell. The prices at the local level will be higher, but they will take care of your warranty issues and any other problems that arise. Yeah you save some cash buying online, but then you run into a big hassle of having to deal with thier warranties if anything goes wrong.
So what would benefit you more? Saving some cash and taking a chance on being inconvienced if you have any problems....or going with a reputable shop that will take care of any issues you may have with your equipment?

yes, but these people will take you for a ride.
I went into a shop, determined to buy a head unit, and a pair of components.
the guy quoted $50 over the MSRP for the headunit, then some for the dash/harness (97CL), then some for install. and this is just for the HU
then for the components, a seperate installation job of $125. $650 for HU & Components. I was willing to pay up $500.
this is the reason why I've been riding with stock fm radio for ages now
