97 Acura CL Radio Question
Recently I had to change the car battery on my vehicle and of course the radio reset itself. For the life of me I cannot find the code anywhere in my vehicle (gas tank, trunk, fuse box, inner door, behind ashtray, etc). I bought the car used and the original guide was nonexistent.
I have called Acura and have been quoted $100 to get the radio code. I figure that if I can get the serial number and go to Acura, I might have a better chance of them just giving me the code. So far I have tried this suggestion -
It looks like I may have to remove the radio unit in order to obtain the serial number. The closest instructions I have found online are - http://www.installdr.com/Insta...7.pdf. The issue is that my configuration is slightly different (see photo).
Does anyone have any suggestions on how to get the radio code, or serial number (with or without removing the HU). Any suggestions are greatly appreciated.
Thanks!

RETRIEVING THE AUDIO UNIT SERIAL NUMBER
To reduce warranty and customer costs whenever an anti-theft code is lost, the audio unit’s serial number can be retrieved without having to remove the unit. To recall the serial number, follow these steps:
1. Turn the ignition switch to the accessory (I) position.
2. Turn on the audio unit. Make sure “CODE” appears on the display.
3. Turn off the audio unit.
4. Press and hold the number 1 and number 6 preset buttons at the same time, and then turn on the unit. The serial number will appear in two parts – the first
four digits followed by the last four digits, and then the sequence will repeat.
5. Enter these eight digits into DCS to retrieve the antitheft code. NOTE: If you happen to compare the serial number on the audio system’s chassis sticker to the displayed serial number, you will find the first two digits do not match. The serial number on the sticker begins with two alpha characters. When
doing an inquiry on DCS, always use “30” followed by the six-digit serial number.

same happened to me they wanted $107 to pull the code at the dealership... call acura headquarters 1-800-382-2238. you will need your vin, the serial number on the back of the radio... then they will tell you to fax a copy of your liscense and registration.. then call back give them the ref # they give you in the begining and then your done.

Thank you both for the suggestions. I will call Acura tomorrow and see if I can get the code from the VIN number. If that doesn't work looks like I will have to figure out how to disassemble the dash to get to the back of my radio.
From what I can tell it looks like the first couple of steps might be the same to remove my radio from the instructions I link to in my original post. I just am a little unsure what to do from step 7 on as the configurations are slightly different. If anyone can provide suggestions, I would appreciate their input.

I tried taking the dash apart this afternoon. I could not find the code on the inside of the glove box. I got to a point where I felt like all the screws were removed from the center piece outlining the head unit but it just did not want to come off.
I called my local Acura dealership (Pohanka) and got the same security run around. The lady gave me the $99 quote again and said it was because I did not purchase this car at the dealership, although my family has purchased a RSX and TSX from there in the past.
I will try calling corporate tomorrow and see if they can help me out. Otherwise, it looks like I will be spending the 100 towards a new headunit and let someone install it. I refuse to give Acura $100 for the code.
Thank you all for the suggestions.

I finally got the radio out and gave the serial to the Acura headquarters 800 number suggested above and naturally the radio code they provided me did not work! :angryfire

i was having a terrible time removing the radio and then noticed i was able to remove the bottom piece below the radio and seen 2 8mm silver bolts. I accidentally put the bottom piece upside down and pushed it in too hard, now its stuck and looks like someone tried to steal my radio...
