6x9s and subs in the trunk: My Theory

In some cars, in the past, I have noticed subs in the trunk will "push" 6x9s (or any speakers in the back deck). I believe this will cause some type of distortion, even slightly.

Any thoughts, anyone? I have not yet played with my TSX in this area.Although I did pick up my new subs the other day.. yay...

makes sense to me although I don't know if the distrotion is audible. Air is compressible but the action of the subs would push against the back of the 6x9 cone thereby acting against the motion of the 6x9 magnets.

Yep... subs that can change the air pressure in the trunk will "push" on the by-nines, in effect turning them into weak passive radiators.

Another reason to hate by-nines...: )

The distortion this adds to the sound is much less, I seem to recall, if the subs and the by-nines are actually playing different bands... it's when they are trying to play the same sounds and fighting each other that any effect is most noticeable.

But it's probably not a level of distortion that anyone with by-nines still running off of the factory amp will ever notice (relative to the distortion+noise floor of the factory amp playing loud, I mean...)
