Question 3.2TL Navigation System

Just curious...my '00 TL is without navigation, and now i am regretting not getting the navi in my car (purely my mistake). Anyhow, I was just "browsing" some junkyards over the internet, and found many 3.2TLs all smashed up from the side, with navigation systems inside intact. The trunks were not harmed on these cars either, so I figure the DVD back there is in good shape. What would I be getting into if I got the navi out of there and "tried" to install it into my car...and where the hell is the GPS antenna (the comparable structure to the Audi GPS "nub" on the trunk)? Is this even possible?

I have navi and before I bought the car, I asked the dealer how hard it would be to put Navi in after the fact. He pretty much told me No F'in way, but I'm sure it is possible, I mean look at the things street is doing with his mods.. I too am curious where my gps antenna is, everyone always asks me, and I don't know..

I recall people saying the GPS antenna was on ther rear dash. There is also a gyro/speed sensor going to the Navi computer. It's probably routed up into the engine compartment or hooked into the speedo cable.

On the CL, the GPS antenna is located in the rear windshield, near the top, just above the rear passenger-side seat.

The additional gyro/speed sensor Steve mentioned is used in conjunction with GPS for add'l accuracy, esp. when in underground tunnels or parking garages where a clear view to the satellite is impossible.

Personally, I believe it would be very difficult for anyone outside the factory to install the OEM Navi.

Question

mhammy84, where on the Internet are you finding these sites? I'm looking for a 2000 or 2001 Navi unit.

Anyone know if the connections are the same from the '99 to '00 units? I've got the '99 unit in my car but would like to swap out the '99 Hard Drive model with the '00 DVD model. Anyone know if this is possible without major rewiring?

hi all, may i ask where you guys found the TLs in the junkyard with navigation?

i'm looking to see if anyone knows where i can buy some wire harnesses from a 2000 TL. i recently wrecked my TL but i was able to save the dvd-drive/computer and LCD from my car. i want to make this work in another car so i'm hoping to get the main wire harnesses for it. i have the security code so that won't be a problem. does anyone know where i can get these wire harnesses? if it turns out to be too much work, then i probably will sell the system. i know that this is better than the 99 model since the dvd covers the entire USA. so any help would be greatly appreciated and i thank you in advance. you can email me at y2kaibo@hotmail.com.
