2007 TL-S Custom Fiberglass. TASTEY!!

I've been in this car for about 3 days. Today I finished this single 12" fiberglass subwoofer enclosure. The sub I used is a 12W6V2. Here are some pics. If you have any questions or comments please let me know. There is a bit more information in the SPONSORED SALES forum. Enjoy!

Hey... I spent a good $1900 smackers at the stealership this run. My TL just busted the 100k mile barrier and needs some love. I had to suffer with this sorry excuse for a Type-S for almost 3 days while my baby was in surgery. Just kidding. The '07 was awesome. I'm damn happy to have the '02 back in the driveway though. I was very disappointed in the engine of the new TL-S. But then again, it only had 80 miles on it. Maybe things get better once it's broken in.

How does it stay in place? Looks ready to fall over since it the lip doesn't go to the ground.
Otherwise, I like the design, aside from the mis-matching carpet.

You get a STAR for pointing that out. I used a contrast carpet so it would stand out in pictures. This is prototype. Real enclosures will be custom made and color matched to each application. The box actually does sit on the floor and is snug enough to stay in place. But, this one is mounted to the metal bracket behind the trunk liner with two fat screws.

The sub enclosure that you are looking at in these pictures was stripped down and cut in half. From there a mold will be made.

I disagree! Once the carpet is color matched it will look perfect I've spent alot of money on my audio setup and if I could do it all over again I would keep my trunk space and go with something like this.

its like a mutated box trying to come out.

should make a box so that it blends in with the sides.

Sweet. That's awesome feedback. I need to get the loaner back soon so I can make a less obtrusive enclosure. I agree with you. Most of the people I asked said that they wanted an enclosure similar to the ones I had previously made for 2nd gen TL's. But not everyone is cool with the angled sub look.

I like it My main concern is for the protection of the speaker based on the location of the enclosure. Can a grille screen be mounted over the speaker?

You bet. A grill for this speaker runs about $30 bones. And it looks great.

This is a 2007 Jetta. Fiberglass 10" enclosure. Not so contoured. Flat front. Color matched carpet.

I could do a similar enclosure with the 3rd gen TL. I can also make the front face completely flat. No contours.

i've always heard to aim the sub towards the back of the car for the best lows.

Cool

Man thats nice. Except for the wire . Just messen with ya.....

But if you really want stealth. Check out my thread.

You can't see a thing!

Also there is NO LOSS OF TRUNK SPACE AT ALL.......
There is no space lost at all. It sounds very accurate. An 8" in our car is plenty. If it is in the cab that is.

Looks pretty nice, I would have painted that enclosure though. With a blue like that, I don't think the mis-matched carpet does the install any justice. Nice glassin' though.

Why would you ask me that? Like I'm gonna tell you that it sounds bad.

I ran that 12" W6 with a 400 watt Kenwood. Not my first choice... but it was already hooked up in the shop. The bass response was very accurate. Exactly what I was shooting for.

In real life, I would have used a much bigger amp.

What's the best AMP to use with that setup and is there any revisions comming to this enclosure? I also agree with other users here and think that it should be more a flush type of enclosure so you kind of box off that space to make clean edges.

I would use a JL Audio 500/1 on a single 10" or 12" W6. There are several revisions that have already been made. I'm currently working on a special TYPE-S edition enclosure that has the OEM TYPE-S badge mounted right above the subwoofer. Covered in stitched black vinyl.

I will definately make a flushed enclosure very soon.

Check out this thread in the Sponsored Sales forum... it has more info.

So would you run 500/1 JL amp to TWO 10W3's? Or one for each?

Thanks

A 500/1 would run two 10W3's nicely. With power to spare.
