2003 TL w/Navi - XM Install help

Has anyone installed XM in a TL w/Navi If so can you answer the following questions --

Is the stock unit XM ready?

If not, does the stock unit have an AUX port so I don't have to go the FM Modulation route?

Where did you locate the antenna? My 2003 already has an antenna for the Onstar and GPS on the rear roof line...

What XM Head unit is recommended for this car?

Where did you install it?

Thanks for the help!

The antenna on your roof is for Onstar only. The GPS antenna is under the back shelf area.

I have an 02 TLS with nav and I have the Pioneer XM system. The Delphi is a much nicer interface, but I bought mine a long, long time ago before the delphi. I dont believe the stock deck is XM ready. You can call the guys at www.blitzsafe.com and they make an aux input adapter that "fools" the factory head unit into thinking it has a changer attached. Works great, i have one. It is only for the audio and will not control the XM reciever, though.

As far as antenna location, mine is on the trunk. I lost a little bit of range, but only in deep valleys and under bridges. IMO, Dont mount the antenna and keep trying it in different parts of the interior of the car (dash, rear deck, etc.) and you might find it is OK in your main driving area.

My XM controller is glassed into my center console behind the shifter, and I have read the Delphi Roady unit will fit nicely up in front of the shifter. Ive seen the displays in the sunglass holders, too.

Heres my setup:

Good Luck,

Moat

I have had the same Pioneer unit as you moat I have had it over a year & a half now. My controler is mounted under the buttons for the factory radio & just above the coin tray held by a strip of velcro. The antena location should be on the top for ideal reception. I had the trunk mount Pioneer Ant for a long time but the wires got broken in the trunk from opening & closing many times. I purchased the Terk XM 3 ant From Cir City. The guy told me to try the Ant iside on the rear deck. He said this is where he had his. I tried that & the reception was good around town.
I went out on the road & many places it did not do so good & iknew it was the ant. This was becase when the other one was good it had good reception at the same places. I then put the new ant on top & it picks up great at the same places. Also spots around town that I had lost reception with the old ant when it was new & working good. Now with the Ant on top I have no lost signal at the same spots that it would always go out at before.

No it is not stock. Best way to install is using a blitzsafe adapter. It allows you to use the pioneer xm reciever channeled through an aux cd input. The sound is awesome!!! I had the local goodguys install the unit for the cost of the pioneer!

Go to blitzsafe.com for more info. The other alternative is to use an FM modulated unit but then your dynamic range is limited by the FM radio signal. You are aware that FM is far inferior to CD sound quality provided as raw output from the XM satellite reciever.
