2002 TLS Speaker Sizes
2002 TLS Speaker Sizes
Can someone please tell me the size and mounting depth for the front and rear door speakers, for a 2002?
I did a quick search, and saw a several differenct answers. I was going to order some Infinity Kappas. Has anyone successfuly installed these without any major door modifications? (besides making a spacer or something -- I'd like to be able to go back to stock if ever necessary)
Thanks in advance,
Dave

You have a max depth of 2-1/2 inches that can protrude inside of the door frame. You hit the window at around 2-3/4 inches. Then you have a max of a 1 inch spacer before you have to go to extra lengths to get the door panel to snap back on. The stock spacer/basket is 3/4inches thick. What tends to really get you is the small door hole cutout... it is only like 4-1/4 or 4-1/2 inches wide. So if you have a speaker with a wide cone basket it hits the door frame. Some people have gone as far as adding 1-1/2 inch spacers, but they also replaced the door panel snaps with longer ones.... and I would still think that the panel would bulge out a bit?
Those are your limitations... I do believe that I have heard of several users installing Kappas by making a 1 inch custom spacer.
Good luck!

As a reminder, while the Kappas sound good in the store, they will sound EXTREMELY bright with their titanium tweeters in the Acura/Blose system with its hideous EQ.
I sampled them in my car at one point. So I'd plan to bypass the EQ and add an amp if you buy them.... It's a bummer, but Acura/Blose didn't make it easy for any simple upgrades...
again, Good Luck!

Thanks Southbound,
I was planning on bypassing the EQ eventually. Figured I'd give it a try with the eq in first, before I tear apart the center console though. See how far turning the treble down gets me. I settled on the Kappa's because I got an incredible deal on them through a friend. Also the swiveling tweeter should help a bit with imaging. I personally hate door speakers, but I don't have the time to build, nor do I want to spend the money to have someone else build custom kickpanels.
Eventually I'll probably add a 4 channel amp, I just don't have it in me to spend hours out in the cold running wiring for it, it's been in the mid 30's in Jersey lately.
