My friend just bought a 99 tl and it doesnt play burned cds is there any way to get it to start playing them or does he have to buy a new head unit? if so what year TL head unit or cd chager can read burned cds?

 

I'm not 100% sure if it's a direct and easy PnP swap but I think I've seen people on the forum upgrade to the newer (01-02) 6 disc in dash.. I could be completly wrong but I thought I've seen people upgrading to this..

 

You can upgrade to the 02-03 TL 6 disc, indash changer. Keep in mind, you can only swap it with a 6-disc Changer from a newer TL not the CL.

 

so a 2001 tl changer should work with burned cds?

 

^^ I would like to know this as well. Sometimes it doesnt play and sometimes it does. Its a huge PITA>

I was told to put a black marker around the inside of the burnt CD. Anyone try this?

 

Yes, the single disc player from a 2000-2001 TL and the 6-disc player from a 2002-2003 TL will play burned CDs without a problem.

I installed a 2002-2003 head unit in my 1999 TL.

As mentioned above, don't buy a Acura CL head unit as it's not compatible with the TL.

Another option is to keep your 1999 head unit and install an iPod adapter like a Blitzsafe unit. I hardly ever play burned CDs now that I have an iPod hooked up.
