03 TL-Possible to replace Bose eq with aftermarket eq
I have a 2003 Acura TL without navigation. It has the factory HU. I bypassed the sub amp in the trunk, installed an aftermarket sub amp and aftermarket sub box. Improved bass a lot.
I find the audio in this car, compared to my 2000 Honda Accord EX-V6 I had, to be awful. The Accord had dash tweeters and speakers on the rear deck, the TL has four poorly-placed door speakers.
I know the signal for the radio goes out of the HU, to the Bose eq, back to the HU for amplification, and then out to the speakers. I want to insert an aftermarket 1/2 DIN eq (like the Clarion EQS746 some people have installed in place of the business card holder) in place of the Bose eq so that I can have the HU amplify it and replace the four stock speakers WITHOUT adding another amp.
Home stereo units usually have an eq out and eq in, with shunts in place to be removed if you use an external eq. Some call it an eq loop.
Is that basically what is going on with this HU? If so, I should be able to tap the eq out, send it to the EQS746, then back to the HU for amplification out to the new speakers.
How can this be done? Anyone have a wiring diagram that can help me? I am very electronically-inclined and have been doing my own car stereo systems for 20+ years.
