03 CL-P Speaker Upgrades
03 CL-P Speaker Upgrades
Ok I did a few searches but can not find what I am looking for. I have a 03 CL-P with the factory Blose system no nav. I originally wanted to just change out the front speakers for a little more clarity and punch. I went to Senor Stereo just to get ideas on what it would cost and what speakers fit and the guy was pretty staright forward saying with a blose system you can't just change out he speakers. You have to do pretty much do the whole system. Well what if I upgraded the 2 door speakers and the rear deck speakers and used a 4 ch amp to power them? Can I connect a line out converter to the stock head unit? Also if anybody has done this, can you tell me the components you used? This is deffinately a budget system. I will be using ebay or some other inexpensive resaler. I would like to keep the cost to $500. Also I will possible be doing my own install unless I can get a deal some where.
your idea with a LOC and upgraded speakers pushed by a 4-channel amp is good. just make sure to get a LOC with 4-channel output. I would get a set of components for the front and co-ax's for the rear deck. you should be able to get everything for $500 if you do the install yourself or know someone who can do it for free...
As for components, here's what I have. I don't have a LOC since I replaced my head unit, but I've got a Rockford 450.4 4-channel amp pushing Polk/Momo comps (MMC5250's and MMC6500's). I ran all new wiring, but that's up to you. my amp is probably putting out more than you're looking to add (98rms per channel) but you should be able to get a 50-60 x4 amp for pretty cheap. I'd look at stuff like Alpine for amps, and speakers are your call...
I'd say check out sonicelectronix.com for pretty good prices on amps/speakers. you should be able to get some rear co-axs for like $50-60, then an amp for around $150-200, and a comp set for like $70-120. that still leaves ~$120 for LOC, wires, install, etc.

do you need to keep the OEM radio? the kit n harness for a radio swap in that are prolly 20-40 bucks. a radio for 200 will sound better and have more features (minus the in dash 6 disc changer) and you can save money on not buying LOCs that youd have to remove once you got a real radio in there.
upgrading speakers and not giving them more power is a waste of money. youre OEM radio is prolly puttin out like 12-15wrms of power but a new one, can prolly put out at least 20-25wrms. doesnt sound like a lot but once you factor in the extra sound control youll get and additional features (maybe ipod or USB control, etc) its definitely a worthwhile investment.
so there are 2 solutions:
1. get the 4 channel amp and speakers
2. get a new radio and speakers
you wont lose either way honestly. you will have to do a LITTLE bit of work to get the bose sub to work when youre swapping out the radio but its really not a big deal.
