00 TL headrest TV questions/problems

today i bought 2 farenheit screens and tried to install. for some reason i cant get them to power up. i used a volt meter and im not getting power to either the screens or the video amp. the way i had it wired was this. from the power wire behind the headunit, i sliced to the power on the monitors. from the ground wire behind the headunit i had it spliced to ground on the monitors. without the monitors, the two wires behind the headunit give me 13V on the reader, once i connect the monitors i get 3V. since, the wires off the screen are short i connected the headunit wires and the screen wires with speaker wire. im thinking i have a ground issue. i checked the volts at the end of the speaker wire before connecting to the screen and i get 3V, which makes no sense. any thoughts?!

i know this may have been difficult to follow so here is a diagram

thick red and black wire is the speaker wire i used to connect the screen. the blue circle is where i get 13V and the green circle i get 3V.

First bench test the screens cuz when ur diagnosing a problem it sucks to find out that ur dealing with DOA product after the fact.
Then:
- Test the ground
- Check the fuse
- Try running a fused power straight from the batt
- Try a relay

by bench test you mean to run it str8 off the battery right?! i have done that and it all works fine. i figured out why i was getting the 3V after the extension. before i connect to the screen i get the normal 13-14V but as soon as i connect it to the screens i get 3-4V. i have no idea what the hell is going on. any thoughts on that?

done. got it all figured out and everything works perfectly. the screens look great. the problem was i was tapping power from the wrong place behind the headunit. i was tapping it after it was connected to the headunit wires instead of right where the metra kit begins. once i connected it there and found a solid ground point everythin worked. thanks for the help guys. if needed

simple fix. the power behind the radio isn't going to be enough current to turn on the screens and the amp. you are going to need a seperate power source for the video. I would suggest tapping the ignition harness.

yea man they are great. i literally connected them and held one up against my avic-d1 and saw a better picture in the farenheits. they def are good quality screens.

Yea thats whatthe problem was. i basically tapped the power farther back into the headunit area and that seems to work perfectly
