lets see....150 bucks for speakers...200 bucks for amps...custom enclosure is about 400...plus extras...ya, that's a good deal actually. You can get better deals...but it'll be kinda hard to find. best of luck.

if the workmanship is good then i would do it. you don't want a crap azz install in your TL. shiet, if i could go back in time, i wouldn't spend too much ... but in the end if you enjoy it then its cool.
to make you feel better, i paid about 13k for my stereo for all parts and labor... just think i could have gotten a custom turbo for that much.

yeah, all the stuff was new ... the install alone was 6k.. for them to mount the amp on the trunk lid.. everything .. plus i got mb quarts all around. the pioneer head unit and dvd changer was amost 2500. so that shiet added up. but its all done for competition, the sad part is i don't think i will ever enter it in a show ... dayam ... oh well

personally i wouldent reccommend pointing the subs through the pass through. many have tried and failed in this type of install. you always get noticeably more bass when subs are fired at the back of the trunk. but if you insist on using the ski pass through then make sure that whoever does your install puts some kind of baffel or board across the opening to the trunk behind the seats and seales off the entire trunk from the passenger compartment. if you dont do this then you will get a reflected sound wave that bounces off the rear of the trunk and interacts and cancels out some of the bass wave in the front of the box. you will get a huge decrease in output by pointing the subs into the car through the back seat.

a good way to test if your having this interaction is after the install is done then play the system and while it is playing open the trunk. if the bass gets louder and deeper then you have a phase cancillation as i have described above. the reason that it gets louder when the trunk is open is because the wave can no longer be reflected back into the passenger compartment to interact with the waves from the front of the box. but rather the wave is allowed to travel out and away from the inside of the trunk rather than back into it.
another reason to point the subs backwards is because the lower the frequency the longer the wavelength. if you pointthe subs backwards you will be adding about another 6 feet to the distance the wave travels through the car. you will get to hear and feel the lower bass notes easier than if the subs were pointed through the pass through.
in short pointing them forward will give you less output less extended low frequency responce personally i would do a setup like i did on this grand prix i only charged 800 bucks for the whole install. notice the sli passthrough was retained as well as acess to the spare and jack.

I know that firing them back will give more bass, but I want tighter bass. I don't want to BOOM out, just increase the bass level. I got the 10s instead of 12s for tighter music. I also do not want to overpower the rest of the stereo because it will remain stock.

Thanks Charles

yes i would have to agree with you on that point. i used to have a grand am that i ported a dual reflex band pass box through the rear shelf and i had really good bass for 2 10" subs. but the trunk was compleatly sealed from the passenger compartment. as long as you have a good air tight seal from the trunk to the passenger compartment your setup through the rear shelf should be fine. but just for curiousity sake try popping the trunk open and see what happens to the bass. if it changes at all you could probly unleash a little more bass if your not compleatly sealed up to begin with.

i hope you didn't think that i was implying that i was using the ski pass???
my port is dynomat'd to where the stock woofer was mounted. so bass comes out through the rear deck. this is by far the most efficient way, b/c no bass is loss in your trunk. whats the point of facing the woofers to the rear. all the bass is stuck in your trunk and that is why people's trunk rattle... http://albums.photopoint.com/j/ViewP...p=45281670&f=0
if you look below the changer you can see the square port, it shoots straight up to the stock opening.
