I have experienced with Metra in the past with my G35 coupe.
You're right it's not the nicest but you can paint it to match the OEM color.

Perhaps a stupid question, but what is this, and why? Their website is really weak on info.

It's a kit so you could change out the factory radio and put in either a single or double din aftermarket one in place of stock.

Metra claimed that it will work for both nav and non nav models, just buy a different antenna adapter...i think it's a good alternative for modifying the dash..

So I guess the navigation would be gone? The knob is gone from the metra kit. Does this mean that there would be nothing displayed on the navi screen? Or just the background?

I got a response from Metra today but it seemed like he didn't have much information about the kit...
"Good Morning. Unfortunately, I have no detailed information on this kit as of yet. The information is given the day it releases, which seems to be soon.

I'm in the process of researching whether I will purchase the dash kit (when available) and replacing the stock radio. I do know that you will lose the tempurature display. No info on the Nav and it's functions, but if I have to lose it functionality to install an aftermarket HU, I will stay stock and keep my current setup.

If Nav stays, I will get the kit install soon after it's available and post pics of kit and the aftermarket unit.

I found out yesterday from Metra that the screen will only show the temp and a clock in the center. So, navigation will be los.

I'm not sure your POC at Metra is correct. The temp and clock shows up on the small display above the radio not up in the Nav display. I will wait until the kit is released and my shop has it before I know for sure that Nav is lost.

I hope that you are correct. I really want to replace my factory radio with the Pioneer AVIC-8100nex in my 2013 Acura Tl w/tech package. also I wonder how hard is going to be to replace the radio?

Subscribed! Sounds interesting. Would probably never delete my nav for this but I'd like to see how it turns out.

Wonder if they'll also be releasing a full kit that allows all of the steering wheel controls (BT, audio, etc.). I'd love to swap out the deck and do things proper (although I doubt the metra kit will be "pretty").

Really not a huge fan of the dash kit. The middle piece where the controls all would have been is just nothing now lol. Looks so weird.

I too am interested in this. Would love to have a HU that have multiple display outputs like a video card does. Not sure wh this isn't on the market yet with all the video stuff in cars now. Maybe I'm just not seeing it. Anyway, losing temps is probably a deal breaker for me. Maybe that lcd in the stock hu could be relocated to all of that dead space in the metra kit.

Ever since I bought my '10 TL (non-tech) I have hated the sound coming out of the stock HU. This may be an option for me now that is 5 years later. Now I just need to find a good shop near the Raleigh area who is up for the challenge and has some experience with the 4gs.

It should be very easy to install. The service manual tells you how to take part the dash and it's like 2 screws, the rest is clips. Installing the deck should be similar to putting it back. Wiring the harness is the same for every car, plug and play and match color wires and crimp them.

This thing seems to be only $35 on ebay. I think I'm going to buy it. Has anyone else bought it yet? I really want to see what it looks like installed.

If you have a Tech package, Navi will be lost if you use this kit. I'm looking at option on how to use the main display. I'm going to see if my tech guys can use the screen to display info from my aftermarket HU. Will keep everyone posted.

Thanks for the link. Are you aware of any functionality that will be lost in my case as I have the non-navi TL? I assume the volume controls on the steering wheel will no longer work, same with the handsfree buttons.

Looks Good! So, it deactivated the upper screen? Or does temp control still show up there?

I noticed they offer a free download of disassembly of dash and install in PDF....... Looks pretty straightforward

I bought their kit for my Mazdaspeed 6 back in 2007, then modified the single din to a double din and painted it to match car. Showed it off at SEMA that year when I was with Team Allstars.

Temp control still shows on screen. It is not like most basic deck installs, its not a match the colors and plug it in(unless you only want front speakers)
