member's location

you know how it says all the members online at the bottom of the main page? i think they should be organised. like when you sign up as a member to the site and you can give what state you live in if you dont know everyone on here, then you can make friends easily with people from your state. so you can just send messages to the people near you for meets and other activities. so that your not left guessing how many people would actually even try to show up instead of posting a forum, and being disappointed to find out that only 2 people live near you. this is just a minor thing, but i think it could be usful to new/unsocial members that dont go around like a stalker trying to find out where people live.

Good idea although some people are not comfortable giving out what state they live in, like the members who leave the Location box blank.

Looks like you left it blank

Something should be done about this for sure, where you can search by state and all the members will show up. or major cities if possible.

This will be a huge help in setting up Acurazine meets, city and statewide.

I'm more than willing to help in coming up with how to set that up so when new members join, it will ask them if they would like to receive a notification when ever a meet is setup in their area, or what ever.

a lot of people dont check out the regions sections, thats why most of the meets are so small. I'm sure there are over a 1000 member just from houston alone, but only 50-100 have actually came over to the regional section and posted something.

the only way we can reach out to them is when they register, have them select city and state, or something similar, or give show them a note on top saying to check out regional sections.

I'm not sure it's "fair" to make someone reveal thier location if they don't want to. They may choose to participate in the forum (or not) and also choose not to interact on a personal level with others in thier area.

Would it be right to keep someone from joining, using the forum and/or participating in threads just becuase they won't tell you where they're located?

And if it was required, and they didn't want to reveal that information, couldn't they just lie about it? Like I suspect any number of members to about a specific age/birthdate.

There IS a place to enter your location in your account profile. It's optional. Which of us has the right to say it must be mandatory if you want to participate on the forum?

With regards to meets: Do what some of us other do and LINK your meet in your signature. If you get around the forum, it increases that chance that people in your area will know about it. See my signature for an example.

I don't think OP wanted to make it mandatory to post your location. But if you do, then it helps if you know how many people in your area. What's the point of posting your location if you don't want people to know?

This is exactly what the regional section is for. I know it may be difficult to notice the regions bar up above but if they explore the site, they will see it.

Well then help spread the word of the regions section, That is What its for! Making someone select where they live isnt right, nor should we make it necessary.

well maybe not make them submit it. but how some people already have it on their profile, like i see that on the profile name to the left of everyones comment, it says where the location is. well, since they already have it out, use nspec_ya4's idea to give a notice about a meet in the area! but what i had in mind, is on the main page, it has all the members. well, when you go to the members page, it only has: join date, posts and birthdays. well, those are all pointless and we dont need to know. have it label them by location, car, and maybe age. and when people go to the members section, then have it be like the community, have a page with just countries (to minimize size) and then once you select a country, then have it be states. thats it. once you have all the members in oh say, california, then just have a forum for that state that says a meet is coming up. then only the people in california have to know, and the people in california all know what is up. it may be hard to understand, but thats my idea. then people arent obligated to post the location when they sign up, and privacy is still in effect, and then people dont have to search for the regions section.
