Some jobs just can't be M-F jobs.... that's why I have to burn a vacation day to make the drives.

Well I shouldn't say "have to burn" as much as it's "am willing to use".

Grayson is on a cruise this next week but i will call Acura and see what i can do. I am sure they wont have a problem with us doing this again. I will also get on grayson's computer and see if i can find his map making thingy and see what i can do. Grayson will be back next sunday the 16th. If anyone here in austin wants to help me out with this just let me know maybe we can meet up and plan something. I will also call one of the guys that does the Hill country drives every month and see if they have any ideas so that we can get a map up and going. If you need me to do anything else just let me know.

Also was wondering for those people coming in on friday if we all want to meet up and maybe either have a late dinner or a drink or two. Just let me know.

Thanks
A

My BFG's (245/40-18) were ~$165. Can't imagine 19's would be much more.

aight! just was hearing a few grumblings and wanted to get feedback. I'm willing to stick to the original plan.

I'm driving down Friday night alone. The wifey will be bringing her car and a friend. I have an open co-pilot seat in both directions.

I will be overnighting at the Embassy Suites Arboretum Fri & Sat.

I can help with a route as well if need be, i planned one for our club in Decemeber that was pretty awesome, I even got a speeding ticket out of it and the cop's last name was Bacon.

You can see it in a word doc here: http://www.texasrxs.org/junk/12-15%20Directions/

It might be a bit too much as it is, but maybe we can slice and dice some of it or whatever.

Only thing about that route is that it starts way up north and we are meeting at acura. So it wont take us long to get to Salt lick (lunch spot). I was thinking that maybe we can take some roads through wilmberley that have some fun turns and all. Then go to Salt lick via elder hill road and 150. Just a thought.

i just maped out the first portion of his drive and switched it up so that we start down south and end up at salt lick. time is about 2 hours 20 minutes. maybe on the way to the salt lick we hit some smaller roads like creek rd up towards the north end of the route. those look nice and twisty.

any comments on those roads? as in: to many lights, boring, no curves, cops, small towns, etc...

also need to wait and see what kind of maps the hill country club has. might be able to add some fun ones!

ok ethan, so i'll redraw my map around all the banked hairpins i had planned. damn...no fun.
jk man
i understand. i don't want my car in the shop either considering i haven't drove it anywhere besides down my street since november.

what do you think about the drive length? a little more than 2 hours of driving then we can eat. would anyone be interested in more driving to slosh around that all-you-can-eat bbq or just head back to austin? it's a nice 40 minute drive back to austin.

so tentatively we have something like this

9am - Sterling Acura.

10am - Taking a drive through the hill country. (prob more like 10:30 by the time we get it together)

1230-1ish - Arrive at the Salt Lick for lunch

2-3ish - Taking a scenic drive back to civilization.

8pm - Going out that night for dinner/drinks

those roads were a good mix of long straights and tight curves (gotta' love the hill country), I tried to plan it to suit different skill levels so even someone going on their first run could enjoy themselves and for the more agressive people they could still push their car a bit. The only small towns were ones that were already known about (Wimberley, Blanco, etc.) Not many lights, a few stop signs at some of the intersections but that was it, the only police we encountered that whole day was the DPS guy who popped me, (and even that could have been avoided if I'd heard the rest of the guys on radio as they had radar detectors going off behind me) but the roads were pretty much void of them the rest of the way. The latter part of the route that brushes up against the Willow City Loop had some cows and cattle guards too , but I doubt we'll be going that far so it's probably a non-issue. There's lots of options out there, if anyone is interested in catching air in their car there's Fitzhugh road on the way back from Johnson City that's a hoot! If anyone wants help planning this deal let me know as well, our club does 2-3 runs a month and I'm always down for helping out any way I can.

yeah i believe you, lime creek is terrible!
by no means did i submit that map as the official route. i just mapped out the first part of randall's RX Xmas drive for reference. hopefully with all the different maps and notes we can piece together a nice cruise.

randall - thanks for the info on the roads! we can stare at maps all day but that doesn't really help much on the details of the actual driving conditions.
