1st Ever Ramblings meet: 01/12/08 in/near D.C

OK – sis never called back from Philly so I took matters into my own hands after work this evening. I stopped by the concierge’s desk and had him check the schedule for the club room. As of right now, all of Jan 08 is open, obviously including the 12th.
Now for the other news:
There’s a $300.00 Deposit for the room.
The party must be over by midnight. We can howl at the moon, but not from there.
The fee for the use of the room is $75.00 / hr – Three hour minimum.
Now don’t panic yet . . . this was information given to me by the desk guy. I’m pretty sure we’re going to get a break on this from Jen. At least I'm hoping so.

So...300+(75*5)= $675. 675/say 30 people = 22.50/person and you get 10 of that back eventually. Definitely doable - get that room booked ASAP, I'm thinking. I suppose we can take a vote just to make sure it's what everyone wants to do. What kind of schedule for the day are we talking? We could get the room fro 7-12 & just leave to go to a club or whatever when we wanted to. Is anyone meeting before 7? I'm down for whatever - meeting before for dinner, bringing dinner in, going to a club afterwards, going to a bar afterwards, all of the above...you guys pick.
I don't know about you guys, but I'm not going to go to all this trouble to see you guys & just hang out for a couple hours & call it a night. I'm getting f'd up, I'm going to have fun (and be responsible), and make this worth every penny. Go ahead...make fun of me now. I always put 100% of myself into what I do.
vote 1 for the room at about 22.50/person for 5 hours and you get about 10 back.

OK - works done. We didn't crash all the banks. Actually, we did. But everything came back the way is was supposed to. Your money is still safe.
I'm OK with whatever is decided with regard to the rates. We can go with the numbers I posted earlier and if we get a break then it'll just be good news. Better than the other way around.
I can cover the expenses up front. I think the easiest thing as far as other people contributing would be to handle it that night. What do you all think?
There will be a lot more details to work out as well. Food, drinks, how much of each, where are we gonna get it from, catered, bring it ourselves, etc. I'll start putting together a list of supplies as well that I think we'll need.
My other sister, not the one who lives at the place, is an executive chef so maybe I'll drag her into this to help out. Putting together what's needed for something like 30 - 40 people is a breeze for her.

We can just have a place where everyone puts down their $$ for repayment & they can be horribly embarrassed if they go cheap-o on you

See what she'll charge us, but it might be easier/cheaper to just pick up some food from a nice-sized, well-suited chain restaurant or two. Again, the cost may look better spread over 30 people, though.

At my work, you can rent parking spaces each month (don't know how much they are) & they hang a sign in front of the spot that has the spot number, a name, & a company name if applicable. I'm giving consideration to renting a spot & telling them to put "Timmay" as my name - I'll tell them it's my middle name & that's what I go by. What do you guys think? It'll make a pretty funny picture, IMO.
