04 RSX Type S - Cylinder msifire RPMs Dipping

Hey everyone,

I have a 2004 Acura RSX Type S that I've owned for about a year now. It needed a new Primary 02 Sensor since I bought it but I didn't replace it until recently. Before I replaced the sensor my Check engine light would sometime's blink when idle and my RPMs would dip after I drove the car for a few minutes (I think after it was well-warmed up). When started my RPMs will stay around 1,500 RPMs and stay there. After it was warmed up and driven a bit they would drop to around 500 RPMs and it would fluctuate a bit. Finally after I replaced my primary 02 sensor everything was perfect - No CEL, My RPMs would NOT dip below 1000 RPMs and it ran very smoothly (Smoother than it did when I bought it, and it even ran great then). After 2 weeks of my car being great, my RPMs are dipping in the SAME manner as they were BEFORE I replaced my sensor and my CEL is back on and will blink sometimes when idle. It is only throwing the code for a Cylinder misfire now as oppose to THAT and the 02 sensor before it was replaced. Any ideas as to what the problems may be?

Any help would be AMAZING! THANKS!

Four things I could think of. I'm no expert but I would look into these and you might find your answer.

PCV valve.
EGR valve
Head gasket
Vacuum leak

My '02 RSX Type S had the same problems. I had high idle, occasional rattle when I start the car after not using it for a while, and the O2 sensor died. I replaced the O2 sensor and within a week all 4 cams were misfiring and my cam position sensor was throwing a code too. Took it in and they said my timing chain was stretched.

I found it very suspicious that I would have catastrophic engine failure a week after having engine work done. I'm even more suspicious now that you're having very similar symptoms.

I'm going to keep an eye on this thread. Let us know what happens. I may be writing a letter to Acura.

Thanks for the feedback guys, my buddy thinks it might be one of the power packs that go onto my spark plugs, he thinks one of them just may be under performing or something. He says I should go out and buy a new one and switch some of them and see what happens so that might be the most logical course of action right now. The car is driving and performing fine, so I don't think anything serious is happening with it. Hopefully there is nothing serious

I don't know what a IACV is, what is that and how could it effect my car?
