Daytime Running Lights

Hi guys. Just to start off. I am a big fan of DRLs. I love the BRZ's headlights. And I actually want something similiar to it. I have no idea where to get that LED bar though. I have tried searching for it, but nothing has come up. Sorry, I am very new to modding. The most I've done is tint...Oh and if you are driving a White ILX. Black tint is beautiful. What I am talking about is.

Might be a while before you see any ILX specifics pop up.

Keep in mind the modding community of the BR-Z/FR-S took off @ day 1.

Good luck trying to duplicate that. After market led strips look horrid:

Also, the drls run on the same bulb as the high beams, so you'll inadvertently disable use of the high beams by swapping for led strips.

You can always just opt to replace your current DRL/Highbeam to be a different color.. or just go white.. I like white DRL personally. Over the LED strips and things of that nature at least.

Trying to dig up the how to i remember seeing a while back on HIDplanet.

A guy made a set for his Chrysler 300... I have retro'd 3 sets of headlights from my last cars. If I could get a warm weekend where I don't have to drive my car, I bet I could replicate it for the ILX.

Found the link..
Pretty Cool Deal

Yeah I was planning to go 5ks.

Oh and that looks great Switt.

But what I'm looking for is the "bar" look. Like you can't see each individual bulb. Like the BRZs.

This is what it looks like when its not on.

To create the bar look from the individual LEDs all you have to do is put a piece of frosted acrylic in front of them.

Also, you did see the end result of his build right?

From a distance they look pretty close to the solid bar to me.

I made these a while back ago.. Not anything significant but its just a idea starter.

Maybe you could drill holes in for the LED's and hard wire it all into the DRL line. No idea though. I'm not too sure how many people are willing to bake their only pair of headlights and then drill into them and wire the LED's their self's. I would try it if I had a ILX, and a extra pair of headlights.

Looking back at these I actually want to re-make some in bigger, higher quality images..

I like your location DRL LED ideas though tying the DRLs into the current Low intensity High Beam circuit might be a problem. I'd create an independent circuit (with under hood fuse) that is live when ever the ignition is on. As for DRL LED location, the bottom of the headlight would be cool but I believe locating them in the lower grill area by the fog lights would be a whole lot easier to do without trashing the headlights by drilling holes.

Glad you mentioned that. I already have gotten to work on it. But for me, not everyone, but for me to do this, I would have to switch out the stock 2.0L and 2.4L fog light air damn housings for the Hybrids, Just for that chrome strip which I think is needed to help mount and abstract the LED lights when added. --And yes, I understand the DRL's being more powerful cause they are Halogen which requires more energy to illuminate VS LED. Making that whole new fuse system and stuff sounds complicated and tricky, then again, resistors may only work but for so long.

This may not be everyone's taste though, and I understand that.

Not my ILX, I'm only 16.. I have a 04 TSX.

Also, you may want to order a set of Chinese headlights.

Yea that looks like Christmas lights..the redeeming factor for the 300 was the acrylic overlay which smoothed out the light into a uniform band look.

I thought it was your mom's TSX?

Do you guys see where there is a gap on the High beam/DRL lamp? There is a space between that lamp and the rest of the light with nothing in it. Perhaps an acrylic overlay of LEDS throughout that tiny space would look good.. otherwise leave it alone

I put LED strips under my headlights over the summer (like the Audi ones) and they have worked great and look really good. I wired them to my radio so they are on when the car is on. I can post some pics later

Would like to see them. What leds did you use, where did you get them? How'd you pull the wire feed to the radio? Why not grab a feed under the hood? Thanks

I tried replacing the bulbs with silver star ultras and it was a big fail. I can't tell the difference between stocks and ultras. I don't think HIDs will work as both highs and DRLs. Anyone has any suggestions on the type of light that would at least look true white when only receiving partial ppower?

What's the best way to wire a led strip so it will turn on when I start the car and turn
Off when I turn off the car? I used a fuse tap in and put it on the fog fuse. Didn't work.
