Lexus: ES News

I'm guessing it's going to be a rebadged Avalon this time around.

Seeing how ugly the ES is now, and it selling so well, shows how the car, like a BMW has transcended in America. B/C people believe in the ES badge and will buy it b/c they know Lexus ES means near top entry luxury car.

Just some rendering. Take it with a grain of salt. Remember how accurrate that Avalon CGI was last year?? Damn thing looked like a long Pruis hatchback. We saw what happened to that.

but i dont know about it being RWD. the people up here buys the ES becuase of it being a fwd. they want a luxury vehicle, with a upscale brand name, that could also be driven through bad road conditions (ie snow). ive seen so many ES's around here, seems like its one of the most popular cars for the business crowd. if they want a lexus with a rwd but on the same platform, they'll buy the GS300.. i doubt lexus would make the always been FWD car into a RWD and lose sales..
oyeah and to stay on topic.. that car is really ugly. so is the model now, but its just getting worse.

The ES's ride will probably remain soft. Just going RWD doesn't magically change the driving dynamics to sport tuned. It's just seen as a luxury requirement, I think. It'll be a isolated, soft riding RWD while the ES fights the battles for enthusiats' hearts.

As long as it's Camry based it will never be RWD. Not only that, the ES will already be fighting with the IS within the Lexus lineup.
Maybe this is a test by Lexus to see what level of ugliness they can get away with.

Lexus boosts prices - - By Greg Migliore - - Source: Automotive News
Lexus also said the price of the entry-level ES 330 sedan rose $125 to $32,950. A top trim level, called the Black Diamond edition, costs an extra $600 for special paint and trim.

They're real. I've seen them elsewhere. I'm looking forward to seeing the production version of this car. The interior's supposed to be even nicer than it is now, to keep it's distance from the Avalon. Also, it'll be the first Lexus to have the glass roof seen above, a la' E-Class, as an option... very cool. The big question I have is the power plant. Will the next gen be introduced with the current 3.3L? Or will it be introduced with the 3.5L? I think it should definitely have the 3.5, making atleast more than the Avalon's 268HP. The IS's 306HP would be overkill in this FWD application, but 275HP driving the front wheels seems doable, IMO.

Everything I have read says that it will have the 3.5 - I just hope that this one looks more different from the Camry than the current generation.

if you look at the proportions on that spy pic, you see it's not carrying the so-called L-Finesse design that Lexus is working on (i.e. long hood, short trunk, swooping roof). I am guessing it'll still be FWD and still be Camry-esque in looks.
