Huwaei Smart Watch:
I wonder how they got rid of the big bezel (LG G Watch R) and the flat tire (Moto 360). This thing looks pretty damn good.

I wonder how they got rid of the big bezel (LG G Watch R) and the flat tire (Moto 360). This thing looks pretty damn good.
Update: We've just tried the Huawei Watch and... it's pretty damn nice. The display is super-crisp, but it's the thin bezels -- especially when compared to LG's G Watch R and the Moto 360 -- that really make this look special. If we have one complaint about the way it looks, it's that, like most of its competitors, the Watch is a little thick, a fact that's exacerbated by how svelte a design Huawei has achieved in general.
The Watch seems well put together and the two straps we tried -- one stainless steel, one leather -- both felt premium enough. It is worth noting that, while our models worked fine, a journalist standing next to us managed to break the crown on their Watch. Hopefully these are early teething problems, or an extremely clumsy pair of hands at work.
In terms of functionality, if you've seen one Android Wear watch, you've pretty much seen them all. The two models we tried were both stuck in Wear's demo mode, so we'll have to wait until we get a retail model to give you more detailed impressions there.

Still loving my g watch r.
I wear it half the week and use my average watches the rest of the time.
I find that when I go out alone I tend to use a normal watch and when I'm with friends or at work I prefer the smart watch.
The watch does prevent me from talking my phone out of my pocket so I believe that is why.
I am looking to get a new band as the light tan is showing wear already. Sort of dirty.
Dark brown seems like a good idea.
I'll wait until I get a new job ad it's my current location that is making the watch strap dirty.
In fact one either get a new job I'll probably upgrade a couple of my watch straps.

P.s. That new pebble looks like an ipod on your wrist. Not a fan at all. I'd take the 360 with its flat tire before that honestly.

You're entitled to your opinion about the screen, but as you use your smartwatch more and more, I think you might change your mind.
Smartwatches are at their best by pushing important information to you in an efficient way. You're not going to be staring at it for a long time, nor 'using' it like you would a phone. They tell you things you need to know, or give you quick convenient access to things you need, then get the hell out of your way.
So in many ways a high resolution on a smartwatch is overrated. Readability in all conditions is far more important, as is battery life. In many ways color e-ink is the superior tech for a wearable.
I say 'might change' because everything depends on how you use the watch. It's interesting how your view of a smartwatch changes as you use it, and how you observe others (without smartwatches) using their phones.

G'damn it, why is it whenever I'm expecting important phone calls that my fucking G Watch R goes into theater mode by itself?!

Apple watch is irrelevant. I was fuming when Cook was talking about his iWatch like it's the brand new invention of the century by Apple. 'You can read your messages and talk to it.' No one has made it or will ever make it; we are the pioneers nonsense. Seriously? He has been waiting for it since he was 5 years old. Bitch you could have bought it years ago.

Can you unlock a hotel room door with an Android watch? That was the most useful thing I saw in the Apple presentation.
As for the argument that these watches get more information to you quickly. I will counter that by saying that they will be even more distracting than a phone. I can already picture company meetings where people can't stop looking at their watch. Who really want's their watch pinging their wrist every 30 seconds because it has some update.

$100+ more for a hotel key?
Cook is smart. He has to push it like it's the best thing since sliced bread because many loyalists will buy it regardless of price. Plus it will be the watch seen in movies, TV, ads, etc just as iPads and iPhones are.

Hotel key, this is so awesome! Not. You can't swim with it as it is not waterproof, so you must remove it prior taking a dive, which makes this gimmick, a gimmick

I gotta admit, I spat out my drink when I heard about the $10,000 Apple watch.
For a digital watch? Sure, it's made of gold...but, DAFUQ. At $10K, you can get a GLORIOUS mechanical watch.
Apple is ...that, or the people who are considering anteing up $10K for a digital watch.

You mean stupid and rich people will buy it. I doubt any famous people will actually pay money for this useless watch. More likely, Apple will give it for free to some celebrity.

Well, let me first be clear: I'm not HATING on the watch because it's Apple per my usual refrain. I just think the concept of a $10K watch...regardless if it has rhodium/platinum/Portman's-cum-joos is retarded.
It's digital. Made of chips.
For $10K, you're buying a piece of fine horology in a mechanical watch. Period. Not some glorified cellphone/calculator-strapped to your wrist.
Anyhow, call me a watch traditionalist.

I think the only major difference is the OS. Doesn't Android watches only work with Android? So if you have an iPhone and you want a smart watch, you're pretty much stuck getting an Apple Watch. So right now, although there is an overall competition in the market place, there is no competition if you are unfortunately stuck with an iPhone.

So that alone is nice. I can get a message in the middle of the sentence and it (usually) barely even interrupts me.
However, the smartwatch is best used as a smart filter for your phone. The problem with phones is that you get the generic 'ding!' you got some sort of e-mail/message/call/etc and you have to see what's up.
Ideally you set your phone so that only interesting stuffs buzzes you on your watch. For example, For e-mail I use flags/filters so that newsletters/mailing lists/etc are marked as 'read' and don't get sent to the watch. (mails that I actually read are archived).
Never mind being distracting during meetings, you don't want your watch going off all night.
I tend to also turn off group chat notifications from sending to the watch as that gets old REAL FAST when people are just yakking about nothing.

Unless you own a smart watch and wear it to work you cant really sit there and claim how distracting they are.
I am 100% proof that a smart watch will make it so you don't pull your phone out as often.
My watch doesnt notify me about things like facebook, instagram, or other apps. I have those set off. It COULD but I dont want it to.
Also, my phone gets set to silent automatically when I wear my watch.
Which means I never get a buzz or cherp when someone messages me on facebook. I dont see that until I pull my phone out. Out of sight out of mind.
My phone does alert me when I get an e-mail to my gmail account which is my main account that never sees spam. Aside from the e-mail notifications I get alerted for texts, calls, or anything I set up via my watch... like an alarm or if my phone's battery is running low. I literally dont have to ever take my phone out at work unless I need to make a call since I can respond to emails and text via the watch.
The simplest way my watch helps me not pull out my phone: Every day, more than once a day I get in my car to drive somewhere. Be it work, home, dinner, etc etc. Every time I turn music on and every time I stream that music from my phone. I used to get in the car, turn the car on and go. If I want to listen to music from my phone I need to pull my phone out and activate the app.
Now, I simply lift my wrist up and say "Okay Google. Play music." My watch tells my phone to start the music app which then streams to my car without ever pressing any buttons or looking anywhere but the road.
Now, as for the apple comment. This is just going to turn into a stupid debate like android verse apple.
And I am sure like apple, it'll push tech they didnt create that has been around for a while on other devices. Apple just markets them better then takes all the credit.
All android or google has to do is make an app that will read the scanner at a hotel and boom now apple isnt the only one.
There are already devices on the market that are worn on the wrist that are programmable with wireless tech. People with money have been doing this for years with their amazing cars and expensive homes.
Apple didnt create anything new they just started using existing tech.

My gripe with that phone is it looks ugly. Nothing to do with resolution or how it functions. I think its physically looks like a mini ipod strapped to your wrist.
I prefer a smart watch that looks like a normal watch, function and screen res aside. I want it to look like an average watch to the average passer-by.
