Anyone RACE an EVO ot STI
not the new sti or evo, the previous ones. my car is stock. i have dark tints and yellow fogs and these guys for some reason alway stare and give me a mean look ive never had a chance to line up with one of them. although understand my car and theis are like apples and oranges. i would like to know how it compares. i have a feeling that if the guy driving isnt the best driver i might be able to keep up... just a thought tho.
any experience with these two cars. and any advice as to how to approach, and what would be the best way to race against one of these cars.

I have a tl-s and an evo. If the evo or sti are stock your going to have to race them on a roll. If they have even just a 60 dollar boost controller your done. My tl-s is stock my
evo has all the bolt ons and tuned. It is not even close how much faster the evo is.

I have sort of raced what I believe was a stock blue 2007 STi from a roll (didn't have an aftermarket exhaust or an aftermarket intake roar). It wasn't really a timed 3 honk deal but he was on my ass...so after traffic cleared I downshifted to 3rd gear in SS mode on my 07 TL-S from about 50 mph to about 100-110 I was about 2 car lengths ahead of him and I could tell he was trying to keep up but couldn't...I kept gaining and shut it down because of traffic...he then like an ass flew by me into traffic and started weaving in and out thinkin' he was cool...btw I have a few mods - pulley, exhaust, upgraded j pipe and test pipe, CAI, IM spacer, and TB spacer

I raced one from a roll. The guy harassed me for a minute straight so I finally floored it to get him to leave me alone. I was going to back off right away but we were holding even so I stayed in it. Toward 80mph, I started a slight pull and got my rear bumper a little past his front bumper and shut it down at 110mph. Mine was a bone stock AT 06 with a big sub box in the trunk. I was laughing and he didn't seem so happy.
From a dig, if the driver actually knows how to launch, he's going to put about 3 cars on you that you're never going to make up.

^ Yeah that's true...this guy seemed to know how to drive...but it was from a roll for me as well...I've heard that the subaru tranny don't pull as much in 3rd or 4th gear, but that's what i heard dunno for sure.

If your car is manual...then maybe depending if the other driver knows what he's doing or not...and if you know what you're doing. From a stop you're screwed no matter what, from a roll there is the possibility. You need to get the jump on him before the turbo spools up. You also might want to consider some bolt ons.

if you catch an evo especially but also a sti sleeping off the line the cars are slower then a yaris until the turbo builds up (3500 rpms). However when you rev the bad boy up to for me around 6800 and launch the car 60 comes up in the 4's stock and with a twin disc clutch and bolt ons 60 can be had in the mid 3's. That is pretty fast out of the hole. Also a stock evo is not a real strong freeway monster but once again who has a stock evo anymore. Sti's seem to cost more to mod and seem to have much more limitations once you get to about 400whp. my .02

A guy at my job has a bone stock evo and we get into it all the time while driving home. From a stop he smokes me easily, not even close. At a roll we're pretty even and at around 100-115mph i pull on him slightly.

The evo stock is far from a freeway monster. There are a ton of guys driving evo's that don't know how to drive them very well. They are fairly difficult to launch properly. A stock evo (8 and 9) dyno stock around 250 whp on a dynojet. The evo can be very laggy if not on boost, if you catch one sleeping or on a rolling start (some guys have the brakes on to build boost) you can work an evo over for a couple seconds before the boost builds.
With a boost controller, exhaust, cams, and a dyno tune your up to 325 whp. Add meth injection or race gas with tune and your getting close to 400whp. Basically for very little money 5k or less you can have 400whp. That is with out a turbo kit upgrade and that is a whole new topic and whp level.

For the street 5500 is pretty good for a launch rpm but at the track because it is much sticker 5500 requires you to ride the clutch to much so you have to remove it or set it higher.
I would think it would take a pretty built evo to keep up with your GN. My guess would be a 2.3l stroker with a gt35r turbo might give ya a nice run. In the 1/4 that setup with a good driver is in the high 10's. The evo X is heavier by about 300lbs (i think). It also seems the new X when modded is not nearly as fast as the 8 and 9's. More to come I'm sure.

nice, seems like from a roll is the way to jump at one. im just asking because theres some guys out here (brothers) who have an evo 9 and evoX and im never going the same direction but they always stare at me. and i can hear them say things also.

The GN has been 10.60s so far and with the new GT6765 boosted turbo and a 500lb weight reduction it should knock a couple tenths off hopefully, but with my luck it will go a second slower.
I didn't realize the new EVOs were slower. What's the reason for that? Just weight?

Either the drivers were on life support or they were e34 M5's you were seeing. e60's are mid 12 second cars all day. A stock Evo or Sti might nip them to 30mph or so, but then it's lights out.

Of course the M5 should still be the faster car, but what I'm saying is these 300hp AWD cars are quite fast.

I don't know where you get that idea from. 300 hp can only do so much in a 3300lb car, AWD or not. Maybe a few factory freaks can get into the very high 12's under optimum weather conditions, but they're generally lower mid 13 second cars at 102-104 at best. The e60 M5 is a consistent very low 4 second 0-60 car, running 12.5's at 115+. On the whole, it's a MUCH faster car than any stock Evo or Sti.

Give me a break bro. You are right the evo is a low 13 stock with a good driver. The m5 is anything but a consistent 12.5 at 115. These cars are very hard to launch and when launched right you will see a low 13 at 110. Now dump 5k in the evo an it is GAME over for your super luxury M5. Problem alot of evo's have 5k or more in them.

Seriously, the M5's you saw had really bad drivers. I've personally seen one run 12.50-12.70 at 113-115 in 60 degree weather. Road & Track wrung a 12.4 at 116 out of one. And sure, 5K in either an STI or Evo and it's gonna be quicker, but this was all about factory stock cars.
I'd love to own an Evo myself but I think they're way too mono focused for a daily driver. If I was 25 I'd probably buy one though.

Yeah, I like the e39's better. I could afford the car, but I'd be concerned about the repair costs.
