I ordered mine from Summitracing ... in the end it was $50.00.

If you go to page 22, you can see the part # and type it in.

Mmmmk...well it really depends on your exhaust and the setup, not on just what kind of mufflers they are. They'll be loud as really any other muffler, alot depends on resonators blah blah blah.

Got a quote, $150 for the job :- |. I went to another muffler shop .. $175 ... BRILLIANT.

Anybody in San Diego area know of a cheap muffler shop that would do it ~$120?

A lot of shops will charge a minimum labor rate for this type of job.

Best to just ask around. At some point you are going to have to realize that not all shops have cheap as shit labor and just deal with the normal install rate.

DON'T Do that!! Several members including myself had nothing but problems trying to get them from that sight. I was warned by another member just after I placed my order. They did not have the resonator, and never even emailed or called to let me know. I continuously emailed (because there is no phone number to call ) for about 1.5-2 weeks and did not get a response to one question until I told them to cancel my order!! carpartsplanet.com is NOT the place you want to get one from!!!

WOW! That's ridiculous!! Did you explain to them that all they are doing is cutting out 1 piece and welding a piece in with a short section of straight pipe that they need to put 1 bend in. It took my guy 10 minutes to do the whole job. I understand that some shops have a minimum labor rate of 1 hour, but even so does that mean that they are trying to charge you $150-$175 and hour??? Wow, you would be best to go to a hole-in-the wall mom and dad type muffler shop. Just my ...

Yeah, good luck with that. I tried every kind of muffler shop I could find. $100. Didn't matter that I showed photo's, video's whatever. $100.

Near as I can tell that's the basic local shop rate. If that's the boat you're in, you're going to have to suck it up an pay the going rate.

I must've hit 20 shops. Highest was $150. Lowest was $75 plus $15 for pipe.

After a while you're time becomes more valuable than the $30 or $40 bucks you're trying to find.

When I was doing exhaust I would have probably charged 70 bucks to install if the customer brought in their own part - and 35 if they were using our part.

I'd say if you bought you own muffler you should expect to not spend more than 100 on the install, 50-70 if you are lucky.

Or, go to a shop that has one or two people working Saturday, show up right before they close with $20 cash and it likely will be done.

I guess it all depends on where you go!! I brought my Dynomax to the shop, told them what I wanted and they did it for $35 including pipe, labor and making and installing a new exhaust hanger..

Ok I just purchaed the Dynomax Resonator today from this site:

http://www.fasterthanthem.com/produc...oductid=156481 It came out to $47 and change.

called it in via phone to make sure they have it in stock and they did, so this is a very good price from what I can see. Many of the cheaper places are on back order so I didnt chose that route.

My question now is I was wondering if this resonator can be painted with one of those rust proof grey metallic paints they sell at the auto store to prevent it from rusting or would that afect anything?

Just got mine done this AM and $70 is exactly what I paid for Stage 3. I knew the shop was honest as they've done work for me in the past. So I paid $120 inc. the Dynomax and am really pretty happy. With the windows down it sounds really tuned, yet not at all obnoxious or ricey. I went through the Dunkin Donuts drive thru and blipped it up to about 5K or so and the sound resonating off the building sounded great; a classy sound for a lux car. Can't wait till the resonator breaks in a bit!

I got the brilliant idea of asking my High School auto teacher if he could do my resonator project for free, as long as it held educational weight ... didn't work out too well.

I guess it's time to pony up the dough, I'm sick of looking for cheaper prices.

[QUOTE=aznbo187]

Compilation of all stages of exhaust resonator modification.

So I took the time and made this post so all of the new people don't have to go through 20 pages of discussion.

So far, there are 4 stages of this exhaust mod.

Stage 1.
Least noticeable in exhaust note increase.
Configuration:
Stock exhaust.
Remove mid-muffler. Replace with 2.5" straight pipe. Everything else remains stock.
Cost: Can be anywhere from $30-$60 w/aluminized pipping.

Stage 2.
A tad louder than stage one, a bit more pronounced tone.
Configuration:
Stock exhaust.
Remove mid-muffler. Replace with 2.5" straight pipe.
Remove stock resonator. Replace with Magnaflow resonator part# 10416.
Magnaflow resonator is a 14" long resonator, which dampens and changes the note of the stock exhaust a bit more, thus you get a bit more loudness/tone.
Cost: Magnaflow resonator costs around $60. Install ranges from $60 -$90 w/ aluminized pipping.

Stage 3.

(Tone result TBA)
Stock exhaust.
Remove mid-muffler. Replace with 2.5" straight pipe.
Remove stock resonator. Replace with Dynomax resonator part# WLK-24215.
Dynomax resonator is a 12" long resonator, which is a bit shorter and less dampening than the magnaflow resonator, thus it should give you a bit more loudness/tone than stage 2.
Cost: Dynomax resonator costs around $40. Install ranges from $60 - $90 w/aluminized pipping.

Stage 4.
Loudest setup out of all 3. Has a bit of a rasp, similar to M3 exhaust setup.
Stock exhaust.
Remove Mid-muffler. Replace with a 2.5" straight pipe.
Remove stock resonator. Replace with a 2.5" straight pipe.
Cost: Can be anywhere from $40 - $60.

Note: If you live in a climate that is prone to rain, snow, rust, Stainless steel pipping is highly recommended.
This also does not prevent you from passing smog, as it does not alter the characteristics of the catalytic converters, but it does not mean that this is street legal either as it does alter the stock setup of the exhaust.

All this talk about Stage 3 is making me jealous .. my Dynomax resonator is sitting in my garage collecting dust ...

I have had no luck finding it under $120.

i think that installing both a new resonaotor, removing the mid muffler with a straight pipe and replacing both rear exhausts with magnaflow. the resonator is part number 12640 and costs 87 ish and both mufflers cost 90 ish each so about 300 total. it sounds better than just replacing the resonator in my opinion

the G35 sound is too tinny...sound way to fake.. go with stage 3, and if you're REALLY not happy, swap out the stock buffers with some magnaflows - that's what i'm doing now.

as soon as my y-pipe comes, i'll get it welded up and try to post sound clips.

By doing any of these different stages is there a power difference?
