TSB & VIN
Dumb question.... What's all the chatter re: vin numbers, is it the last four digits that signify when it was built, and the higher the number means later production? If so, from what VIN number did some of the early problems get ironed out?? Thanks for the help!
its the last 5 digits. the bigger the number the newer the car. i think all cars under 18XXX might have the memory seat problem. As for the new tires all cars around 33XXX have the "new" el42 tires. but the problems are all scattered. not every single car will have it.

Vehicles through 018476 had the memory seat problem, then it was fixed.
If you get anything produced with VIN over 02000, which these days should all be well over that, most all problems have been corrected. And the tire thing as caball88 said above.
There are lots of individual (one or two owner) problems that crop up here and there, but mainly the newer ones, as reported in this forum from what I can remember, as doing well.
If I missed any major current problems, bring it up.

I’ve attached this TSB (the first page of 12 totals) below in order to provide more detailed info to those early VIN 5AT owners who has their trannies recalled.

- As it states, 2004 TL 5ATs, From VIN 19UUA66..4A000001 thru 19UUA66..4A014224, will be affected, however, it also indicates that “Not all vehicles within the VIN ranges are affected by this recall…”, please call ACS or have your dealer to check its eligibility first.
- According to federal law, these vehicles cannot be sold or leased until they are repaired. If you buy a 04TL 5AT with the affected VIN, your car should be fixed and updated prior to selling to you.
- There is no external way to tell if a remanufactured A/T has been updated. Only computer records from Acura and dealership could tell if this 5AT has been installed the oil jet kit or replaced by the remanufactured tranny.
- Take a look the part “Vehicles with 15k miles or less” and “Vehicles with more than 15k miles”, the huge difference of works and inspections need to be done.
