Tein Type S springs on my 2021 Tech

2021 TLX Tech SH-AWD with Tein Type S lowering springs.

Some people have been wondering if and how the Tein Type S springs work on a non-Type S. The answer is they do and I’m extremely pleased so far!

I installed these a week ago but haven’t put many miles on them to let them completely settle. Today I drove 80 miles to see how they road and to break them in a little.

Results:
1. They feel slightly stiffer than stock and the car really feels planted. There is no bounce or porpoising. It just drives nice! I’m 50 years old and I like comfort. Anyone who tells you it will ride horrible has not ridden in a 2021+ with Tein springs.

2. Granted I still need to let it settle a bit, but the springs gave a solid 1” drop on all 4 corners. Mine might even sit ever so slightly lower in the rear due to the heavy Acura spare tire kit I have.

3. I am extremely happy with the outcome so far.

Observations/guesses/theories:
1. If you have a FWD and use these, your rear might be slightly higher without the heavy rear differential in the SH-AWD.

2. I don’t expect Tein’s advertises 1.2” in the front since these were designed for the much heavier Type S engine. But, I’m quite happy where they are now. We’ll see if they settle more.

Feel free to ask any questions. These are my observations so far and your results may vary.

I do have 25mm spacers on the wheels.

Todd

The drop looks really good and great job on the offset selection. I’m still waiting for Eibach to release theirs but Tein definitely has some great feedback from owners and with the conservative ride height.

Thanks! I couldn’t wait any longer so I jumped on these hahaha. I’m a little impatient lol.
If Eibach comes out with some pro kit that’s adjustable or if just springs (depending on how much they drop), I might consider them next.
As of right now I’m completely happy with them for an aggressive “stockish” look and the ride quality is great!
If I were to tweak them, I might like 1/2” more drop lol

Was an alignment done or not necessary?

thanks for the pics. I have been contemplating spacers and from the looks of it 25mm is perfect for the fronts but the rears poke out of a bit. 20mm might be the way to go there.

I haven’t done an alignment yet. It’s not a bad idea to do one though.

sitting on flat ground and now that it’s settled a little, the rear edge of the tire is exactly even with the fender. I actually dropped a string (plum bob) down from the fenders edge. The fronts definitely sit more inward of the fender.

plus if you decide to go lower, the wheel will pull even more under the fender.
I think the 20mm would look great also. It just depends on how low you want and personal taste.

Greetings All,

I'm getting my Tein's installed on Wednesday for the Type S. Looking at the documentation from Tein, it was clear on what to do with the bump stops. Did you have to trim them at all? Thanks in advance

lol, that threw me off when I saw that at first as well. No, nothing to do to them. Leave them alone.

What is the model number for those Teins? About what price? The stance looked nice. I have a 2023 TLX Tech & was thinking about lowering it. Much thanks.
