Primary and Secondary Downpipes

Has anyone seen the latest product offerings from IMR America:

https://www.imramerica.com/collectio...ype-s-exhausts

Both the primary and secondary catless downpipes are being offered with an option to add a high-flow catalytic converter. From what I have seen, others have had their downpipes fabricated, and I believe this is the first mass produced downpipes option.

Any buyers on this forum? I’m sure everyone is waiting for KTuner to release their flash for the TLX-S to take advantage of this bolton.

ATLP has a secondary cat delete:

The secondary cat is interesting to me because it looks extremely easy to replace.

I would love to hear some sound clips of both catless Type S and also highflow Cat Type S, and any combo of primary/secondary in between. Would love to go a bit louder but do not want any highway drone what so ever.

Also, to your point, these mods will really be useful once there is a tune available.

I just installed the ATLP but i didn't take any videos of the before, so difficult to compare, but for sure pops in Sport+ are much more noticeable maybe a little throatier and tad bit deeper.

PRL Intercooler, PRL Chargepipe and piping, ATLP secondary cat delete, OEM exhaust

I am definitely interested, and would like to know the difference in sound and performance with all of these bolt ons installed and tune added.

Just checking in to see if anyone has added the Main DP/ Secondary DP combo and if they are happy with it? Also, has anyone gone with the catless version? If so, any CEL lights or trouble passing inspection? Last but not least, has anyone installed their exhaust system? I'm curious as to the overall sound output of it as I really wouldn't want it much louder than stock. Thanks!

For the exhaust, mainly the catback region, are you looking for slightly louder without drone? Some owners have shared that if you disconnect the actuators when in sport+ mode, the valves will always stay open. I don’t like the thought of having disconnected wires but some are happy with it.

Well, I'm actually looking for close to stock level sound wise, slightly louder is ok as long as it's not prone to drone and very loud inside the cabin. This is actually two fold for me, I can't attach my trailer hitch with the stock exhaust so now I have no way of getting my bike places unless I fabricate some brackets and do some cutting to the hitch. It cost a member here $800 to do, so in that case I would just change the factory exhaust, get a little better sound and power and then be able to attach the hitch without modification.

I received my order for both the primary and secondary downpipes from IMR, however, I haven’t made the effort to install them. Soon enough hopefully.

Bringing this back from the dead to ask how you disconnect the valve motors. Where are they located and is it as simple as unplugging them?

According to Innovative, the downpipe in the Type S is really nice. Swapped out the secondary cat for some more sound, but was instructed to LEAVE THE DOWNPIPE as is til you can K tune it to work properly.

I have to respectfully disagree with Innovative. I recently changed from stock to Functionwerks catted Primary and Secondary down pipes along with the Up Pipes and it made AT LEAST the same amount of driving improvement that the K Tuner Stage 1 tune did by itself. It could be the combination of the two. But, I was truly surprised at how big of a difference just that mod alone made to overall drivability and power.

was it a pain in the ass changing the up pipes? seems like a lot of stuff needs to be moved out of the way

also whats the inner diameter of the stock pipes if you still have them. I'll buy them off you if you're willing to sell for cheap.

Yes, it was a pain in the ass, no doubt. However, it was worth it for sure. Yes, I’ve got the stock pipes still. I will have to measure and let you know. I may be open to selling them as well.

ok let me know. DM me if you want to sell. I'll use them to mock up my own up pipes. Probably use titanium with a flex bellow.

I ordered my downpipe from IMR in June and they stopped responding to my emails. I gotta do a credit card dispute and now buy the downpipe from FW. Really fucking frustrating waiting 2 months only to be ghosted by a "legitimate" company

That really does suck. But, in the long run I think you will be happy it played out this way. If you can swing it I would add the Up Pipes as well. Truly a really big difference over the stock setup.

I dont like IMR. It honestly seems like they have no clue what they're even talking about most times.

They're nice enough but openly admitted they are in a moment of scaling up their business. So emails went unanswered. I had to post a comment on a new youtube video and then got a response. 10 weeks for the downpipe

Are they just larger diameter? I imagine the ceramic coating helps a bit too.

I believe they are slightly larger diameter and ceramic coated inside and out. I was on the fence about getting them as well as I knew they would be a pain to install. But, I can clearly say they were well worth it.

So I finally installed the primary downpipe last weekend and the exhaust note is definitely louder. I had previously installed only the secondary cat delete and liked the overall sound, not too much or too little. Now with both primary and secondary downpipes, it’s not only louder, but I can definitely notice the additional smell of emissions from the exhaust. Little by little I’m starting to think it’s too much and now contemplating adding a high flow cat to the secondary downpipe.

Anyone else bothered by the smell of the exhaust?

Side note: I dropped one of the spring loaded bolts when removing the primary downpipe and haven’t found it but definitely hear it rattling around when driving; I’ll have to jack up the car and look for it.

Update: I found the downpipe bolt I had dropped that has the spring attached to it for tension; the noise was killing me. All good now, just the smell I keep noticing daily.

Seems to be quicker, but I’ll try and get a dragy run in. When my TLX-S was stock, it was running 13.3 @103 according to the dragy device. I now have JB4 piggyback, and catless primary & secondary downpipes.

I’ll post results once I log the run.

Had the same problem. 30 days after I made the order I still hadn't heard anything so I emailed them for an update; never received one. About a week later I emailed again saying I would have my CC refund my money if I didn't hear back by end of day; then they emailed me at around 10 PM to say it hadn't even shipped yet. Got refunded through my CC and bought the ATLP instead; it's almost $200 cheaper anyway.

Would you mind giving a summary of what you had to do to get the pipes installed? I just did my secondary cat and that was easy but obviously the other pipes are way more involved.

I would have to catch up with my friend who did the install for me but I do know that the turbo inlet pipe needs to be removed, the entire intake system and a few other things removed/loosened. Royal pain but worth every bit of effort it took. Drivability is vastly improved on and off boost.

louder than stock, and yes, more HP but I can’t tell you how much for certain.
