Planted technologies seat bracket install

Hey everybody, so I finally had some time to take the Driver seat out of the Type S and try the 18+ Honda Accord seat bracket that I got from planted technologies.

Even though these are not Honda Accord based, I figured some parts may carryover. In the measurements were pretty darn close. I got this thing last year, but just haven’t had the time… Until yesterday.

So I pulled the seat out, installed the bracket and… It fits! Well, almost. The rear mounts are about half an inch too short. So I reached out to planted, and they are making a TLX version of the bracket for me.

So if anyone is interested in putting a racing seat in their TLX? There is something available and then something more specific coming down the pipe.

For now, I’m going to cut out the rear mounts and put a larger washer to secure it temporarily. I did remove the rear seat and will be using the rear seat belt mounts for the harness.

I’ll be going with a Braum Racing carbon fiber, racing seat, at least on the driver side for now. For track use. It’ll give me a little more headroom and a lot more support!

keep you posted!

So a quick update: I sent them some more measurements and some more photos and they are doing a TLX specific bracket as we speak. I have a couple of sets of them coming in for both Driver and passenger side.

I’m waiting to hear from Braum Racing and some seat options because I’m kind of torn.

We are setting up the seat with both sides, having mounts for a four-point harness. Once the seatbelt is part of the seat, I won’t be removing it to put it on this set up, I’ll be using a four or five point harness.

most likely a four point. But there will be accommodations at the front of the bracket for the anti-submarine belt or whatever they call it of a five point.

I will be rear mounting the harness to the seatbelt location in the now removed backseat. And hopefully eventually doing a custom harness/camera bar across the back of the seats. Everything currently available is too small because that’s one big car lol

stay tuned.

Was getting rid of the rear seats a significant weight savings? By any chance did you weigh the driver and passenger seats to see how much each seat weighs?

The rear seats aren’t that heavy in general. The seatbacks are but not the bottom or the side pieces. But I’m guessing probably 60+ pounds… Maybe 70+ pounds?

The front seats are pretty heavy though. I’m thinking probably 60+ pounds each? I will try and weigh those when I get the next one out.

The new racing seats are in the low 20 pound range. So overall you’re saving quite a bit and I really pulled the rear seats out just for mounting options for the harness. And I don’t use it lol so it looks cool.

Another quick update, turnaround time is really quick on this. We should have them in the house in about two weeks?

Cool about the front seats!

Quick question about the back seat: is it easy to remove just the bottom cushion of the back seat? Like 2 clips and a bolt?

yes! You’ll feel the clips under the front edge of the seat. You just press and pull out and then there is just one bolt in the back that I probably wouldn’t even attach again if I put the seats back in. The biggest weight savings though are the seatbacks.

and yeah, keep everyone posted, I have to pull the passenger seat out today just to be 100% sure that it’s a mirror image lol it look like it, but I told the guy to hold off for a day until I checked

Air bag light with aftermarket seats

One issue I ran into with my ILX was the airbag light once I unplugged the OME seats. I never found a way or a method to trick the system. Also if you're going to run a harness what about the OEM seat belt latch. The annoying beep lol

haha. One thing at a time lol working on the SRS light. As well as the beeping. Have to fly this one by ear. We’re going where no one‘s gone before on this car at least.

I wonder if you can wire resistors in to fool the SRS system...

there is some risk with that from what I have seen. But. Another pioneer in NJ is helping sort some of that out. Stay tuned.

just get some real Carbon racing seats, they’ll probably cost less lol I almost did Carbon but… These BRAUM Racing are pretty reasonable and very cool seats.

they had a really sweet Carbon version but to add the red cloth/suede to the offerings was an additional $500 lol, no thanks.

and we will be running OMP three-point harnesses… One mount point in the rear versus two. Just for ease of use.

so a quick update… The Braum Racing seats came in today! So guess what I’ll be doing tomorrow… I’ll have some pictures shortly but still working on the electronics part not too worried about the SRS. It’s the chime that I’m trying to figure out how to disable without having to rewire the whole damn thing… I.E. factory wire harness and disassembling some of the factory seats…

Are you going to run a harness? The chime will be from your seatbelt latch. You will reuse that. Depending on the style seat you went with you might need that latch arm extended. I did this custom arm with my seats since i didn't run a harness

Working on everything at this point, but thanks for the info.

that’s where the harnesses are mounting. Once they don’t have holes on the center console I had an additional one put on the bracket itself.

And?? Best part? The seat belt chime wires are a separate, small, harness! Undoing it tonight and won’t have “Binging”!!!!

Nice! Seat looks great. Did you get any weights on the new setup versus the OEM seat assembly?

Thanks!! I have one of those 'hanging' scales and did my best...saves right about 24lbs per seat! SOOO much lighter than factory.
