Coolant Replacement (3.0L Engine)

Replacement

How to use this manual .
  1. Coolant - ReplacementPreconditions
    • Engine Cooled Down
    • Cowl Cover Lid Removed
    Procedure/Specifications

    1. Wait until the engine is cool, then carefully remove the expansion tank cap.

    Figure 1

    2. Loosen the drain plug (a), and drain the coolant. (Figure 1)

    3. Install a rubber hose (b) on the drain bolt (c) located at the rear of the engine block, then loosen the drain bolt. (Figure 2)

    Figure 2

    4. When the coolant stops draining, tighten the drain bolt.

    5. Remove the rubber hose.

    6. After the coolant has drained, tighten the radiator drain plug securely.

    7. Pour Acura Long Life Antifreeze/Coolant Type 2 into the expansion tank to the MAX mark (d). (Figure 3)
    NOTE:
    • Always use Acura Long Life Antifreeze/Coolant Type 2, and if necessary add Honda Extreme Cold Weather Antifreeze/Coolant Type 2. Using a non-Acura/Honda coolant can result in corrosion, causing the cooling system to malfunction or fail.
    • Acura Long Life Antifreeze/Coolant Type 2 is a mixture of 50 % antifreeze and 50 % water. Honda Extreme Cold Weather Antifreeze/Coolant Type 2 is a 100% concentration coolant. Do not add water to either coolant.
    • If the vehicle is regularly driven in very low temperatures (below -22 deg.F (-30 deg.C)) a 60% concentration of coolant should be used.
    Engine Coolant Specifications (60% Concentration)

*: When you want to winterize the coolant with the minimum amount of coolant change but the current coolant concentration in the vehicle is unknown, you must drain all coolant from the cooling system.

Coolant Amount Details (Including the expansion tank capacity of 1.0 L (0.26 US gal)

    Figure 3

    8. Loosely install the cap.

    9. Start the engine and warm up the engine by slightly raising the engine speed above its normal idle speed until the cooling fan(s) comes on twice. Do not operate the air conditioning system.

    10. Turn off the engine. Check the level in the tank, and add Acura Long Life Antifreeze/Coolant Type 2, if needed.

    11. Securely install the cap, then start the engine again, and check for leaks.

    12. Clean up any spilled coolant.

After Replacement (With Maintenance Minder System)
    • If the Maintenance Minder requires the engine coolant to be replaced, reset the Maintenance Minder with the gauge (see "Resetting the Maintenance Minder"). If the Maintenance Minder did not require the engine coolant to be replaced, reset the Maintenance Minder with the HDS (see "Resetting the Individual Maintenance Items").
