I set adaptive cruise to 84 mph and then let it drive with lane assist on comfort mode. This was a trip between San Antonio and Corpus Christi with very light traffic at 5:30am. Now on the way back, the traffic was medium and I only got 26 mpg after passing a few cars. Seeing that it was possible to get 30mpg if I let cruise drive itself made me happy though.

^^ This is about the story with my '10 TL AWD with 6MT, perhaps a bit better on the highway. In city street driving with a lot of stop/go, it'll run about 19-20. On the freeway, at a steady speed and in warmer weather (i.e., optimal conditions) it will range from 26 to about 30, depending on wind, speed and terrain. Sounds like the Type S consumes about as much fuel as the NA 3.7 in the last gen TL.

One thing I found to better my mpg is that the TL HVAC constantly runs the A/C in auto mode unless you manually turn off the A/C. In warmer weather, you can't do this, obviously, but I usually have no real need for constant AC in cold weather (it runs to dehumidify the interior). Once I started keeping the A/C off except when I needed it for cooling, my mileage improved by 1-2 mpg.

Interesting you have the only S so far that has come close to my highway mileage. A while back I posted "Had one segment of about 50 miles pretty flat ground, no traffic, no Waze warnings on autopilot when it got to 84mph @ 31 MPG with the CC set at 85MPH."

Door to door with normal traffic for 420 miles round trip will normally do 31.5 @ 80.4 MPH give or take. Car has GPS active drive mode selector when the car is on the nav system. My 13.5 gallon tank can do the whole trip with a small safety margin but I do fill it at both ends just in case. Counts are pretty good as we use road legal registered golf carts there & the cars are mostly just parked.

Overall not good but I’m sure no TLX-S owner purchased this vehicle for fuel efficiency.

Wow I wish I was getting even 19mpg. My overall average in the month+ I've had my Type-S is 16.5 mpg (mostly city driving). In pure city driving I usually get 11-13 mpg which is abysmal.

I went in expecting relatively poor mileage, but not V8 SUV territory. Before settling on the TLX I considered defecting to BMW (lightly used m550i), and one of the knocks against that car was the absolutely horrendous gas mileage (in addition to the very conservative styling and BMW cost of ownership). But the Type-S is nearly just as bad. Granted I've been driving it pretty hard after the initial break-in, but I drove my '21 A-Spec SH-AWD just as hard and averaged ~23 mpg (also disappointing given the I-4).

My previous two vehicles were V6 TLs (3G and FWD 4G) so it's not like I'm used to great mileage or anything. My 3G was especially bad averaging under 20mpg IIRC while the 4G averaged 22mpg. However, I would expect a decade or so of powertrain tech and a 10-speed would offset the weight gains.

if only I didn’t want to push on the throttle
Haha I'm in the same exact boat - that Sport mode is addictive - except I have a much larger gap \my city and highway mileage. On one highway trip (in Comfort mode) I I've gotten up to 26mpg, but I was purposely light on the throttle and speed since I was low on gas.

One thing I didn't mention above though is that I bought the Type-S in December vs spring for my previous A-Spec, so besides a few unseasonably warm days it's only known cold weather, which is terrible for gas mileage....cold powertrain temps and high air density. I'm also hoping that there's still some break-in left to reach optimal efficiency.

I have a 2020 A Spec V6 SH AWD. I drive 130km everyday round trip to work and home. I get about 500-550km per tank IF I set cruise control at 90-100 and do all highway driving. I live right next to an on ramp so I do no driving around the local roads before getting on the highway. But nobody drives like that, Ill speed up here and there and sometimes follow flow of traffic in the left lane at 120-130km/h, sometimes faster. I would say for regular driving on the highway with some fun, you'll be average about 450-500km per tank. And that is running it all the way til the gas light comes on. I got the car new with 0km. In the past 2 years, ive put on 70km. Thats with work and hanging with friends on the weekends.

If you do a steady 62MPH on the highway here you would get run over. 80 is very general speed, 70zone, common the the low density eastern part of the state with fast traffic doing 85/90.

I get high teens for average MPGs in the suburbs. I'm sure some of that is due to my driving habits, but I also suspect that the city's design has something to do with it. There's lots of stretches with 50-55 MPH speed limits, but also just enough stop lights and roundabouts that you're frequently slowing down or stopping and you need to use a bunch of gas to accelerate up to those speeds again. The car's weight and mechanical drag of the SH-AWD system certainly don't help.

I took a short road trip last week about 225 miles and got 32.4 mpg. I was driving between 60 to 70 mph depending on traffic.
