Securing a Type-S

I put in an order for a 2022 TLX Type S a few weeks ago. The sales rep from the dealer called me today to tell me that Acura isn't currently making them with the premium wheel package that I had ordered and I need to change my order to the standard wheels or I'd have to cancel my order. Can anybody coroborate this? It was kind of an odd conversation honestly, he was pretty pushy about it.

I don't think Acura corporate lets them change anything on the car's build-order once it is submitted.

I put down a deposit on Oct. 13th, 2021 and have been told every month since (including this month) that every attempt to place my order has been cancelled by Honda/Acura. I am now being told to wait until February and they will try again. Pretty frustrating to say the least. I am trying to order a Type S in Apex Blue Pearl, Ebony interior, with the Performance Wheel/Tire Package.

For anyone that is pissed about paying over msrp, it seems like its only getting worse. people are out here paying 60 grand for a GTi. Everyone is going to lose sooo much money on these cars when things straighten out again. Didnt think i’d ever feel lucky for paying MSRP but that is our current reality.

I had ordered my Type S with the performance wheel package but it never came in. I ended up buying the first Apex Blue with Red interior because I knew this was an issue back in August. I purchased the rims from Acura and swapped the all seasons on and I’ve been happy because the rims look so much better. I’m actually glad it worked out this way because I wasn’t looking forward to swapping tires for the winter.
Maybe look at getting the car without the wheels and buy them separately. Then either sell or use the stock rims with winter/all season tires for the cold time of year.

Acura manufactured only 183 TLX in December compared with 1,644 ILX which unless there are different chips used in the ILX is quite shocking.
Until production increases measurably wait times and delays will be the result. There is good demand for the Type S but hardly any production to satisfy it.

I believe ILX is at the end of its run, another 1-2 months left before Acura releases the Integra. So Acura is pushing to finish all the leftovers. TYPE S is really hard to find here in my region. I found one in Ontario with 5,200KM on it and the seller is asking $70K CAD.

Well looks like I will be canceling my order on my TLX Type-S. This morning I traded in my 2021 STI for a new 2022 Lexus IS500 Launch Edition. I am liking the raw V8 power. Here are some pics:

Wow, MSRP is a fantastic deal. Where are you located? My local Lexus dealership sold their IS500 LEs with a $10K ADM. I'm still waiting on the non-LEs to start trickling in (I want Ultrasonic Blue Mica). Had an IS-F in my past life, and I'm so glad to see the 2UR V8 is back in the current IS. That motor might be old, but it makes the car worth every penny.

I am located in Michigan & this specific IS500 Launch Edition was ordered for a customer. Saturday for some reason the customer backed out. I immediately went to the Lexus dealer with my STI for appraisal & got it for MSRP.

Love the IS500, probably the best looking sports sedan currently on the market. Was hoping for more from the TL-S in the way of looks and performance, so the IS500 will probably be my next car. There is a waiting list for the IS500s and ADMs, so may have to wait until they cool off a bit.
Enjoy the new ride.

Dealerships are trying to survive!!! My Acura dealership was in the top 10 in the U.S. just about 1.5 yrs ago and before. They now have NO NEW cars on the lot to sell...and it's
getting to the point that emp. will have to be let go. THAT's why some dealers are adding the ADM's. They are trying to get some cash flow to keep the lights on...literally!!
My dealer sells at MSRP only. But, no cars to sell. Can order...but, delays...so, can't tell cust. when they will be built.
These are just the facts.

Still think Type S is a more handsome design and best looking in class, got to respect the V8 power and sound though!

Car Crazy for Sure!
Order date to build date...??
Putting together info from my dealer...new car Mgr. is a good bus. friend.....they are getting 2 Type S builds next month, and over 40 vehicles delivered....all
pre ordered vehicles. The TLX Type S's were ordered last Aug....so IF they get built and or delivered in Feb....then that's about a 6 month wait. Mine is looking
to come out about that also...IF it gets built on the most recent date we got.
Again, not Acura's fault....they are building what they can based on "all the unforeseen issues" that have plagued most manufacturers.
Long wait...and depending on when you ordered and things stay the same for awhile....that could push you close to when 2023's might start ramping up???
Something to think about....I sure am. Hmmm????

This is the norm with buying high end limited-run exotic cars from for example Porsche and Ferrari's. The wait time is 2-3 years. So it is not unusual that by the time the buyer picks up his limited-run Porsche or Ferrari, the dealership is already taking orders for the next generation model that the buyer just bought.
