Which model and color of 2021 TLX might you get?
#81
I already expect them to make some money on the sale.
The deposit's purpose?
1. It clearly displays my intent as a serious prospective buyer.
2. Reserves this car for me exclusively (the exact 2021-TLX I would have custom-built-to-order).

To me, Fair is close to TrueCar or Precision Purchase pricing. It's nice to have a car dealer that you don't mind doing business with. I don't mind if a car dealer makes a small profit from selling me a car. I'm not sure how consumers expect the dealers to stay in business without making money. Cars or whatever ... I buy what I like. "Saving money" or getting something on sale is not very high on my list of qualifications
But understandable ... if you have the disposable income, do what makes you happy. At the end of the day, it’s your money and we all die someday.

I'll be curious to see what kind of pricing you end up getting and how it compares to the going market rate. I can't imagine that this car is going to be in short supply; crossovers rule the day, and sedans tend to languish on dealer lots. It's not like this is a low-volume highly-sought after car; I'm willing to bet the average days on lot for even the first batch will be at least a couple weeks

Reality check
For a US city (in the top-10 per size) we have one Acura dealer. Even ignoring colors, there are 8 possible models (since SH-AWD is optional on all models).
They are getting 7 (and 3 are already spoken-for). That leaves 4 (Basically, they ordered one of each config).
Other dealers across the country are likely doing something similar (or less). Remember, this is the new Covid-19 economy.
Back to us ... maybe one for the show-room floor. That leaves 3.
Not sure how you figure there is going to be many 2021-TLX sedans languishing on dealer lots.
And contrary to popular belief, not many buyers now-days are going to walk-in and buy a $35k-$45k sedan (off the lot) that is not configured exactly (or close) to the way they want it. Personally, even a non-acceptable color would stop me.

Now, where did I put my shovel ... oh, here it is.
Yes, I said it was risky. Yes, hot new cars (in short supply) often sell for near MSRP on initial release.

And the initial sale is just the start of the "marriage". At least 3 times now, the dealer and/or Honda has stepped-up with Goodwill-Repairs (saving us thousands of dollars). Like I said, we don't get everything free/cheap, but I do feel we have always been treated fairly.

You nailed it! Life is short...sometimes we think too much. As far as financial you're comfortable. Good for you.

Given that Type S will be a small volume seller I just don't see Acura given any discounts especially for the first 2 years or so. Unless, this thing is a total flop LOL. Even now, they're not giving much off the Type R.

2. What state? Authorized Acura Dealers? How is that even possible?

For the SF area, 11 in the greater SF Bay Area: https://www.acura.com/dealer-locator...?zipcode=94115
For the LA area, 14 in the greater LA area: https://www.acura.com/dealer-locator...?zipcode=90210

Yeah, my brother (and many others) have pickup-trucks (many are Japanese) and large trucks like Suburban/Expedition.
But in my neighborhood, mostly luxury SUVs , sedans, EV, and sports-cars.

California. We have 34 Acura dealerships total in the state. High Asian population = a lot of Acura drivers. If Acura does one thing well, it's that they know their demographics.

That's crazy. Yes, this would significantly change the whole dynamic of purchasing a new Acura from a dealer.
While I feel like I know the game pretty well around here ... this makes me feel like I live a sheltered life.

I'm guessing there is a lot of "old money" around there and that properly values are on the high-side?
Yeah, so here ... 1 Acura dealer and only 2 Audi dealers.

I was never much for American history growing-up, but I really like the movie National Treasure. I think it would be cool to live in Philadelphia (among all that history).

I've been to parts of TX a few times, mostly the pan handle and Dallas.

I'm in the camp that says discounts will be easy to get within a few months. Its a sedan, and at the price point we are seeing people will have plenty of options, and Acura's mojo that they had 20-30 years ago is long gone. The MDX & RDX are by far their most popular vehicles and there are usually at least 20 of each of them sitting on the lot near me.

Seems like advance is the way to go. Just a 2k difference from the aspec and you get more goodies. You can easily black out the chrome trims, and add the lip spoiler accessory, which imo looks better and more subtle than the aspec one. Add the body kit, and it'll look sportier than the aspec. Only issue is the darkened head and tail lights that the aspec has

I imagine because most of the market does not care to spend that much money on an appearance package. Perhaps Acura customers aren't that vain...yet. If they were, then we should already be seeing a tacky $500 option to get a glowing A emblem on the front a la Mercedes
