I'm back after almost 20 years!

I can't believe my last login to this website was on 08-12-2002. My last Acura was a 2002 TL Type S. A few weeks ago I purchased a 2022 Acura TLX Type S Perf Tire/Wheel. It's such a fantastic car! Sadly I had to pay a small markup ($2500) to buy the car. Inventory is super low and the only other dealer that had one was asking $10k over plus another $10k in accessories. Yes I'm in Southern California. I came from a 2021 Mustang Mach E BEV. Great car but it had a few recalls so I sold it for what I paid for it after 7 months (MSRP). I gained a $7500 tax credit so in theory I would have a net profit of $1800 if I use the whole tax credit. I added the full underbody spoiler kit, carbon fiber decklid spoiler, carbon fiber diffuser, powder coated my wheels gloss black, gloss black painted center caps and black lugs/locks. I still need to install the carbon fiber interior kit and may purchase the illuminated door sills. It's great to be back.

Welcome back. I also had a 2002 TL-S once, but I had to dump it when the replacement tranny started to show telltale signs of yet another imminent failure, with no more extended-and-extended warranty coverage.

Good choice on selecting your appearance accessories. They make your already awesome-looking car look ever better.

Looks clean! If you don't mind me asking, where did you buy the spoiler kit and how much did they charge? The black accents are awesome

Well firstly welcome back to Acurazine last login was in 2002 good to see you come back after 2 decades. Glad you enjoy the Type-S she got the looks, style, luxury and just enough performance to keep you enthralled every time you drive it!

Definitely get the illuminated door sills that’s one of the very first accessories I’m putting on my Type-S when I get mines.

That an old schooler was lured back by the Type S speaks volumes to me.

Welcome back!!!! 2002 was back when I would troll Azine messing with the 3.2TL-S guys. (I had a 5.5G Maxima at the time.)

Got everything from my local Acura dealership. They gave me 25% off parts. The side skirts, rear side skirts and the carbon diffuser's labor was $960. Personally I think it's a bit much but it came out great.

I got out of a Mustang Mach E Premium AWD Extended Range. The car had 2 recalls, one to remove the windshield and glass roof to reseal both. Apparently Ford messed up and didn't apply enough sealant to create a safety issue. I didn't want to go through with it so I sold it for MSRP and lost tax and license but the tax credit was greater by $1800. A friend who works at an Acura dealer pitched it to me. I thought it was really nice. I ended up buying it elsewhere since they had it marked up $10k.

Interestingly, I had a 2003 TL-S that I beat the absolute living shit out of up to 173K miles and tranny never slipped once. I was merciless on that car. I sold it to buy 2003 CL-S 6MT but that's another story. I've heard so much horror about those 2nd Gen TL trannies yet I drove mine brutally to 173K and sold it in perfect working condition.

By no means, I want to change this thread to something negative but where are those "Acura fans" that they always comment about negative things and not sending a quick note to welcome a member that was gone for years and the new TYPE S brought him back! Whenever there is something positive, I don't see those fans....It's like they don't exist.

This is great! Over the weekend, I spoke with a neighbor who left Acura after the 4th Gen TL and now he ordered his new TLX - ASPEC. Guess what? He is leaving Audi (A4) His reasoning...way too many issues and his exact word. "I cannot wait to get rid of this junk!"

There is a reason they hang around the Acura forums, specifically the TLX one. It’s a magnet for both lovers and haters :-D. I can’t imagine wasting my time ranting and complaining on another brand’s forum about a car I don’t have.

$960 for the spoilers installed….I’ll definitely have to look into it! I’m afraid once I start with the customizing, I’ll catch the modifying bug :-O. It’s like a tattoo, you start with one, you’ll end up with the more!

The killer part about this "self destructing 6AT tranny" fiasco was that not even Acura knew which 6AT would fail and which wouldn't, and tranny failures were not related to how the cars were driven. Even the trannies in the low-powered TL-P (not TL-S) failed the same way when driven by grannies who pampered their cars.

Countless revisions were done on the replacement trannies but to no prevail. Replacement trannies failed the same way, although repeated failures were less frequently in the newer revisions than the earlier revisions.

One of the modulators in the 2G TL sub-forum even had his TL-S tranny replaced 4 times.

You are very lucky to have a problem free tranny on your 2G TL-S.

Not just Acura either ... literally any AT attached to the V6. I had plenty of Accords, Pilots and Odysseys that came through with the issue. Thankfully, Honda was good about it and did replacements on good-will so long as they could prove they had regular service on the transmissions. I had a number of customers come for their service history to bring to Honda when their trannies blew.

My family went 50/50 on HONDA/ACURA transmissions only difference was the field was 3AT & 1MT. The Accord lost its trans & it was replaced under terms of the class action suit. No issues in & out replacement. The TL lost its MT & it was replaced under a TBS had to push to get it done. A pair of 4X4 V6 Pilots were golden for about 8 to 10 years when the were traded in for other brands.

You can add my old 99 Accord LX 4 cylinder (hence my screen name) to the list as well. At 32k, that tranny crapped out as well. Granted, it had a ton of useless bolt on mods at the time.
