5-mile Curva Red TLX Type-S PMC #44 up for Auction....

https://carsandbids.com/auctions/3qy...-edition?c=all

As the title states, a PMC owner recently put his TLX Type-S up for auction on the famed Cars And Bids.
I was told by the seller that the owner bought this car as an investment, which makes sense as when you click the link above it shows the car being purchased a year ago and only got 5 miles put on it so it was never driven for a year.

What do you guys think should people be really buying Type-S models in hopes of making profit on them, especially the PMCs? If the used TLX-S (and MDX-S) market is anything to go by this car is anything but an investment.

Also for reference a similar PMC was put up for auction a few months back https://carsandbids.com/auctions/9QP...-s-pmc-edition and the final bid did not reach reserve.

The 23 PMC was a weird one, it didn't have every feature (eg: missing advance features available in other 2023s). The 23 was only unique paint, and a bundle of otherwise-separately-buyable accessories.

All other prior PMCs had every feature Acura offered on a car, combining Aspec and Advance which was never available on a non-PMC prior to 2022. And then the 2023 PMC just got eclipsed by a 24 typeS with all the features that the 23 PMC should have had.

So doesn't surprise me that people are starting to offload 23 PMCs, I think the blue is a very unique color (though I'm biased because my wife loves her blue), and the grey matte is very special. But the red and white don't seem special enough and I really don't know why Acura built them other than because they wanted to announce red/white/blue during the July 4 launch.

Just checked acura.com and there are multiple 24 TLX Type-S cars available on every dealer lot near me, and the 24 is an improvement in every way vs the 23 other than for those who like analog gauges. So the shortage of 23 is gone, features are now improved, so I find it hard to see any 2023's appreciating at collector levels at this point.

My sentiments exactly its why didn't feel bad picking up my Performance Red Pearl TLX-S and not holding out for a PMC Edition at the time especially when various dealer's wanted $10k over on a car that just had a plaque, special color (and extra black accenting such as the roof, black exhaust tips etc.) and all the optional accessories a normal Type-S could have all installed from factory.

.
Doesn’t work well here as an investment in Kalifornia as they make both parties pay the Sales Tax at both sales. Might not matter on a Ferrari that is $150,000 over sticker. But on a $57,000 TLX??

I learned the hard way when I ended up with two S2000s in late 1999!

Other than possibly the Long Beach Blue/Orchid PMC, you got the best Type S color combo without paying the PMC premium!

I would buy an NSX PMC for investment but not a TLX. Did they think the supply chain issue was going to last forever?

By the time you figure in financing and deprecation, this guy is going to take quite a loss once it finally sells.

Doubtful this auction will pass the reserve.

Quite possibly some dealer fuckery going on here and they will get burned. I've seen some dealers up here in Canada having high demand cars in stock as used with no mileage on them. When they finally give up and don't sell with markups off to auction they go.

I am thinking the same thing as well

Auction ended today and that TLX-S PMC highest bid was $52k unfortunately not meeting the reserve... an "instructive case study in 'investing'" as one commenter so eloquently put it on the auction page.

Hope the owner/dealer learned the market is correcting itself and flipping high trim level Acuras for profit is beyond over lol

This is a good example that just because something is "limited" (1 in 300) doesn't necessarily mean it's desirable. There are only so many hardcore Acura fanboys after all, and most of the ones that exist don't have that type of cash to throw around.

While the stock market isn’t fool proof, that same “investment amount” would have appreciated 19% in the S&P 500 over the same timeframe. No chance this car will have the same returns. Even the extremely popular and expensive Porsches from 1996 and 1997 don’t have returns anywhere near what the S&P 500 has provided. Lesson learned?

Early lessons from the old "Finance for Dummies" book included advice on investing in good debt like a college education or a home and not bad debt, like a car that only depreciates in value.
