Replaced Potenzas with Michelin Pilot Sport A/S 3

I just replaced the Bridgestone Potenzas on my '15 TLX V-6 Tech with Michelin Pilot Sport A/S 3's. My main reason for doing so was the horrible rating and reviews the Potenza gets for snow- I live in W. Michigan and we see plenty of the white stuff. The A/S 3 gets good reviews for winter traction and braking on a number of sites. Got the car in April, so it hasn't seen a winter yet. I thought about dedicated winter tires but didn't want to mess with the hassle and the fact that they can get squirrely above 40 degrees- which can happen here even during the winter. I generally have not had any issues driving in the snow with a decent all season tire.

I haven't had much chance to really push these tires to test their grip on dry pavement yet, but from what I can tell off the line and taking corners faster than I normally do, they seem to be a big improvement over the Potenzas.

Stay tuned.

Anyone else w/ the Pilot Sport A/S 3 on their TLX out there?

I'm actually "upgrading" from the horrible 17" Goodyear Eagle LS2s to the 18" Bridgestone Potenzas that you're replacing simply because I wanted the 18" OEM wheels and found a set on ebay for a reasonable price that had brand new Potenzas on them.

As soon as they're worn though, off they come (want to at least get a little of my money's worth). I'll be throwing Michelin Primacy MXM4s on. Had those on my Mercedes C300 and they performed flawlessly on dry and wet pavement.

Replaced 18 inch goodyear tyres with 19 inch HFP diamond cut wheel with Michelin 19 inch AS3 sport tyres.

I didnt even drive my TLX out of the showroom until I had gotten rid of the Goodyears. I love the A/S-3s on the 19" wheels.

Here's a hint: pump the front tires 4psi up and the rears 2 psi up. Makes quite a bit of difference. ;-)

After driving for the past week with the A/3, I can say they are a HUGE improvement over the Potenza. The car sticks like glue in corners and the handling reminds more of my 2012 TL SH-AWD. The TLX performance is much enhanced with these tires IMO.

It's so baffling that Acura chose such mediocre OEM tires for a vehicle they market as a higher-end sport sedan.

I've got the 18" Pilot Sport A/S 3 on my SH-AWD and I absolutely love them. The car is a completely different animal now. I can't believe how much better they are than the stock Goodyear tires.

They did the same thing on my 2007 TL Type S. Never understood it.

They did it on the 2017 NSX too, while offering a performance tire option (which in my opinion would be mandatory for that car). I don't get their obsession with super blah tires.

I agree. However, that does not really explain the decision to use blah tires on the NSX, since it is going to cost so much anyway, and be sold in small numbers.

Honda did probably save a lot of money using cheaper tires on high volume models like the Accord, but has gone back to better tires for the 2016 Accord. Maybe someone was actually listening to all the complaints about the blah Goodyear tires.

I find it interesting that on the TLX, several people are stating that Acura is installing Michelin tires in an attempt to fix vibration problems. So it seems clear that Acura knows those tires are better.

I have the As/3 tires and they are so much better then he stock Eagles. I used to slide around some corners in the old tires and although fun losing traction does not equal safety. The Michelins hardly ever chirp or break loose. I even took a hard corner in the rain while accelerating and they slide for a split second then it pushed me back into line. Stiffer sidewalks though. I have some H&R springs so I lowered it to 30psi to get a comfortable ride

I have 830 miles on my SH-AWD and I hate these Goodyears, just ordered Continental DWS 06 that get installed next Saturday. I put Michelin A/S 3 on my Audi and they were best tires I ever had, with one exception, they were worn out by 17K miles. They lasted less than the Potenza summer tires that were on my Infiniti. Also TireRack has the Conti DWS 06 virtually at the same rating as the Michelin, but at less cost and better tread life I will give the Contis a try.

That will cause them to wear significantly faster.

Some initial feedback after having the stock Goodyear crap replaced with Continental DWS 06. It has only been a few miles, but the obvious ride difference is noticeable. The Stock Goodyear's were like marshmallows, the DWS 06 have much better steering feedback and road feel and better composure. You do get more road feel, thus will notice more road imperfections, but nothing extreme. So far well worth the investment. The Discount Tire matched Tire Rack's price (with shipping) and gave me $100 for the Goodyears, can't wait to test them in the rain which the stock tires sucked in.

The awd versions have eagle ls2 and people blast them here. My neighbor has Porsche Cayenne and guess what his stock tires are? Eagle ls2.

So far the DWS 06 ar awesome, somewhat transformed the ride. The car is more stable, handles better, feels more planted and in control and corners great.

Thought I would post a quick update. First time with the tire in a huge downpour and wow, what a huge improvement over stock tires. The Contis handled like it was dry pavement even though the water was puddled and corners were secure and planted. Now I am loving this ride.

I have had the A/S 3 for a couple months now and I like them so much better than the LS2. Here is a quote from Car and Driver in the December 2015 issue. They extolled the virtues of winter tires but if one really wanted an all season tire then the following statement, "...If we were going to buy an all-season tire, it would be this one, because it actually has some serious dry grip in summer conditions"

Discount tire gave me $100 for them, yes it was a steal, but I had no space to store them until I could sell.

I did, they offered me 45% off new set. Considering how much more they cost it was not worth it. So when I wanted to replace the Goodyears on the TLX I opted for the Contis because the folks on the Audiworld forum were raving about them and so far they are awesome. It is hard to compare the Coniti DWS on the TLX to how the Michelins road in the Audi, but I do think the Contis are crisper in steering response maybe, but the Audi was a few hundred pounds heavier.

They stole it, I sold mine 300 in 3 days on CL. So far very pleased with Michelin pilot sports but you have me worried about early wear.

Bump them up a couple pounds and they last 40K miles easy.

19" OEM replacements tires/wheels

I'm in the process of determining my upgrade to dump the god-awful Bridgestone Potenza's, and I figured I'd go 19's. I like the Continentals ExtremeContact DWS06 based on the reviews @ tirerack.com. (They're a little less expensive than the Michelins.)

Question: I want a particular wheel, but it's 19 x 8.5 (instead of 19 x 8.0 OEM). Is 0.5 a problem, or will it work fine? I was going to do RonJon Legacy7's, but they've had the same designs for over 7 years.) The TSW Rouge is what I'm interested in... it kind of looks the same as the OEM 18" wheel.

I know they stole them, but had no way to get them home or store them. If you read the reviews on TireRack, you will see several people complaining. Also on the Audiworld forum a few have seen similar results. One thing that may help is FWD or SH-AWD is not as hard on tires as Quattro and other AWD systems. You have them so,enjoy them, if they wear early the Conto DWS 06 actually to me handle a tad better, but are firmer and transmit a bit more road into the car.

IMO 45 is too high they will ride very firm and that is 13psi over which to me is almost dangerous. I used to run mine 5psi over as I do on my TLX. Over inflation will not add that much to tread life.
