V6 Unintended Acceleration?!?!?!

OK I've posted in other threads here but it's alarming so I'm going to start a new one. All of this started yesterday...

Yesterday AM, start the car, instead of going to 1600ish RPM to warm up it immediately goes up to 3k and then bounces up and down between 3k and 2k 4 times.

Then driving, it downshifts back into first VERY hard as you're stopping, jolts the car.

Car sits at work pulled head-in to a parking space. I start the car, put it in reverse, and the car accelerates backward without me doing anything! Luckily no one was walking behind me at what they might've assumed to be a safe distance from the car. It caught me by surprise.

Today, repeat of yesterday. Revs bounce around when starting in the AM, hard shifts back into 1st, and when leaving my work parking space for lunch the car surges back again! Not good!

Waiting for a call back from my service dept. to get this thing in ASAP.

Keep in mind when the car is warm...it is programmed to raise the idle speed up higher to speed the warm up process. If the car is still doing this and you put it in gear, it can move forward as if the throttle is being pressed because it partially is, to warm up.

This question arises from time to time, especially when winter is here, with many cars.

You mean when the car is cold.
I was in reverse.
This was not like any fast idle engagement I've ever felt before. The car surged backward.

My first thought was the idle speed regulator. Then as you pointed out, it is more than that. Let's just hope that this is not the same unintended acceleration issue that plagued Toyota for years. That issue was never resolved and sounded like software related in the end.

Naturally the car didn't exhibit any of the symptoms for the dealer over the three days they kept it. Only thing different about the days it acted up and the days since is morning lows in the single digits versus morning lows in the 10s and 20s. If we get another morning like that I'll take video as I start the car. They did do a software update that seems to smooth out the jerky 1-2 (and especially) 2-3 upshifts which is nice, it feels much better now in that regard. But the car accelerating backward is still unnerving not knowing whether the software update fixed it...

Do you know what the software update was? I've seen postings for the 8DCT on software updates for their tranny problems. Had not heard of one for the V6.

I actually ran into the exact same issue this morning. Upon start-up, the RPM bounced up and down between 1500-3000 (which was calmed down after about a minute), and felt an "umph" about 1.5 seconds after shifting the car into reverse. Felt the jolt as well to every stop. Same issue 10 hours later when I started the car to leave work. It doesn't seem hard to duplicate the issue. Was not a pleasant experience at all. It's nerve-wracking.

Mine's the V6 SH-AWD model. Local dealer is looking at it first thing in the morning.

Crap. Yes, those were my symptoms exactly. I don't know whether to be relieved that I'm not the only one who can substantiate this or be upset that it happened to someone else.

Again, the acceleration in reverse wasn't WOT or anything but enough to give a little scare. The banging back into first gear was annoying for me as a driver and would've been really embarassing if I had passengers in the car (it's bad enough they can feel VCM).

It's scary! Has the software update addressed all of the problems? Or does your car still jolt to a stop? I will update once I hear back from my dealer. My car's in right now.

First 2-1 when it's cold is firm but after that it's better. 1-2 and 2-3 upshifts are much, much better. That said, it has not been the same temperature in the morning since the car acted up for me so the software may or may not have fixed the issue.

Got my car back from the dealer.

They checked the system for failure codes and there were two: cylinder #4 misfire and dog clutch abnormal operation. Just like you, they performed a software update (which they didn't specify) and a hard reset.

Car seems fine for now, idle is now calm and car does not jolt to a stop. Will try tomorrow morning for a real cold start. I still have the rough 2-3 upshift though. UGH. Time to wait for another update I guess. Keep me posted, jeich182, and do let us know if you run into another problem!

hhjang, there's a TCM software update for the hard shifting, makes a big difference, you should ask for it (they did two software updates and an idle re-learn). They didn't report any codes with my car, did you have a CEL?

No CEL, but I did have an instance where I had a christmas tree light up on my dash a few weeks ago (which went away after a couple of restarts) someone else on the forum had the same issue (https://acurazine.com/forums/problem...d-help-921752/)

The hard shifts don't bother me too much yet - well, not enough for me to make another trip to the dealer for it. Probably will get it taken a look at when I switch out of my winters in spring...

Now I'm having this issue.... ugggh. I've been patient with the many problems that I've been having but now I'm starting to get frustrated. Today at work in the parking garage I was sitting with the car on in park... the engine started revving by itself.... you could hear it and everything as if I had my foot on the gas. It did this several times... When it stopped I went into drive, and slowly took my foot of the brake.... the car jolted out by itself as if I had accelerated. To test this more, I stopped before I went up an incline... I slowly took my foot off of the brake pedal and the car drove all the way up a steep incline without stopping.

I can't believe this. Just when I thought the software update fixed everything...

Back to the same issue all over again. AGAIN! Everything from the jolt, to the car giving gas by itself. Not to mention that 2-3 hard shift is still there. Very disappointed.

@RandomRon82, have you gone to the dealership yet? Keep us posted! There are the 3 of us and I'm guessing, at this rate, there will be more people coming in with the issue.

For the record, I'm thinking the transmission is not the issue here. I think the engine's idle/revs are not being controlled properly so the problem may seem like the trans because we feel it, but not the root cause. I could be wrong though.

I had my transmission software update a week ago last Monday. On the next morning (Tuesday), when putting the car in drive after reversing out of my parking spot, it leapt forward without my pressing the accelerator. Scared the heck out me. It never did that prior to the update.
The next morning I decided to try something. I turned on the engine and just sat there. After about 35 or 40 seconds, the tach went from an idle of 1000 rpm to about 1400 rpm and then back to 1000 rpm, without my touching the accelerator. I think this is what may have caused the sudden acceleration on Monday.
For now, in the morning, upon startup, I'm going to wait until the tach does its thing up to 1400 and back, and then start to back out of my spot. The response is fine after that; no trouble driving or anything. This only occurs at start up after sitting the night.
I'm thinking this may be an idling issue that needs some sort of reprogramming update. I will mention it to dealer the next time I'm in.

If anyone is still experiencing this, try to take a video, it might help. I was taking video on several occasions but it only happened 2-3 times before the idle re-learn seemed to fix it.

I just had a SCARY moment and almost crashed my 2006 Acura TL .... the engine was ROARING !!!!!!.... as I approached a very busy intersection (30 meters) the car suddenly raced like crazy I stepped on the brake pedal and the engine was roaring ... didn't know what was happening.... shifted to neutral and turned the engine off.... back on again but ROARING like hell .... off .... I waited a while to turn it on and then was ok.... tomorrow I will take it to the dealer .... ACURA HAS ACKNOWLEDGED THE PROBLEM ???
