Transmission Not Operating Properly P0730

Hey Guys,

Car: 2015 TLX Tech SH-AWD (Canadian)

Recently i was driving on a highway at a very steady speed and I suddenly got a bunch of alerts. The main one said to stop driving when safe and that the transmission may not be operating properly. The other alerts notified that Blind Spot Monitor, Front Collision Warning and Lane Departure Warning were not operating properly. I then noticed that the transmission was not shifting or gearing properly as accelerating had little to no affect. I was essentially cruising...I had to stop completely and turn off the engine and turn it back on. Upon turning off/on the engine, the lights were all gone.

Prior to this happening, I have all transmission updates to date. I brought the car into the dealership to get it checked.. and the alert for the P0730 Transmission not operating properly has disappeared. Glad i took a picture of it... But the dealership kind of played it off and said it wasn't a big deal. They did find another update for the transmission and did that when i brought it in. Wasn't too happy.. so i looked online and it says the P0730 is a code for transmission slipping and is more common on transmissions that are about to fail?

Has anyone had any experience with this error code?

A few of us have had similar issues, including me ... twice. But I don't recall seeing that error code on the dealership invoice. As for what to do about it, only the dealership/Acura can tell you. If Acura won't help you, then you're screwed. I'm guessing the dealership is just tired of dealing with the tansmission issues or they're just a bad dealership. Try taking it to another dealership or call Acura directly and complain. Pray they don't say "well, if the dealership says it's not an issue, we can't do anything".

FYI, when I had something similar happen twice, they replaced rear actuators and something else that I forget. After the first repair, it happened again in 6 months. After the 2nd repair, I haven't encountered it again... yet. The sensation of not accelerating like you had was probably because the car was in "limp mode". I experienced the same issue. I also experienced a myriad of errors where every light on my dash was lighting up and the MID was showing error after error, but I don't recall the errors displaying in the NAV, so who knows what's going on.

Did they mention if the update they applied was the following one : http://www.urvi.net/forumfiles/SB/B16-075.PDF ? It may be listed on your invoice somewhere as "16-075" somewhere. The problem with this is that you won't know if it will happen again unless it happens again, and the bad part is that if it goes into limp mode on the freeway/highway at high speeds, it becomes dangerous. Mine luckily went into limp mode at "street speeds" of around 35-50 mph. If it had occurred on the freeway or highway where I usually am driving, I'd have been in a scary situation.

On my receipt, they did:

223199 Diagnostic And Update TCM
FC: 03217-03214
Part #: 28103-5L9-307

Is this an update we know about already?

"Update TCM" sounds like it could be a software update for the transmission control module. Whether or not it solves what you're experiencing, I have no idea. They may not, either.
I just realized you're in Canada. I'm unsure about the TSB's/software updates up there. I know a while ago Canadians were complaining there were no software updates for the cars up there while updates were coming out here in the States, so I don't know if there's a 1-to-1 relationship for fixes for US cars vs. Canadian cars.
Hopefully whatever they did solves your problem.

Sounds like your car went into limp mode. This usually happens when the transmission is overheated. How many miles do you have on your car? Just curious...

That's about 17,300 miles. You shouldn't have any tranny problems at this mileage. And with clean fluid, I would dare say this was a software/electrical issue. I would do a drain and refill of the AT fluid (at the dealer only) every 25,000 miles or 40,200km to be on the safe side. I do that to all my Acuras and Hondas and I've owned like 10 of them in the last 27 years. No problems. Good luck!

This happened to me a couple of weeks ago and my dealer (Vandergriff Acura) blamed it on AcuraLink. They replaced a cable harness and sent me on my way. I have no confidence that this was a correct diagnoses but the car seems to be working now. We will see if it resurfaces.

However, the service bulletin posted above seems like what they fixed on mine. I do remember hearing about a crimp issue. Not sure why they brought up AcuraLink. A little confused about that.

I hope checking the tranny fluid on a tlx is easier than on the RDX its a pain in the rear end on the RDX
