Speakers/bass causing headliner to rattle

Overall I'm EXTREMELY happy with my TLX. The only issue I have which is bothering me since I notice it almost all the time...when I play music at a decent volume, the slightest drum/bass note in a song will cause a rattling noise in the car. At first I thought it was coming from the rear shelf where the speakers are. Then I sat in the back seat to listen for it, and noticed its actually the headliner that is rattling, causing the noise. It seems to be the center area behind the sunroof area. The rattle is not VERY loud, but definitely noticeable (and annoying). I was wondering if anyone else has had this issue. If so, have you brought it up to Acura/dealership? Any luck in getting it fixed?

I have the base model and haven't noticed the "weak bass" issue that seems to be plaguing the Tech/Adv. models with ELS.

Elite model here and bass is not an issue for me. It could be that different people have different standards and expectations.

No auto folding on the TLX. It is actually a bad idea for cars left out in sub zero conditions as the hinge/housing may freeze causing the motor to burn our when trying to unfold.

Wish we had the option of power folding mirrors here in the US. Can't understand why it was left off the list.

Have you sat in the back to confirm its the rear shelf or it just sounds like it from the front seat? Like I said, mine sounded like the rear shelf but was actually the headliner. Same thing here, +3 and above the rattle is noticeable.

I have the V6 base model and I cant even take it past 10 on volume before I get an obnoxious rattling noise from what I think is the shelf anytime bass occurs.. or at least thought it was the shelf. I will jump back there today and see if I experience the same as you... annoying for sure and plan to bring up to Acura during my first service.

Guess I need to crank up the bass and the volume today on the way home to test this out. Thanks.

How can this possibly happen? The bass speaker in the TLX are wimpy and the ANC suppresses remaining bass.

At lunch I went out to the TLX and ran my tests on the ELS in an attempt to locate possible vibration noise issues. I turned Bass and Subwoofer all the way up and volume control to 10. Sounds great with no noise issues. I could feel the vibrations in the driver's door. Felt very little through the padded seat. Luckily I did not find the vibration noise that others have.

I'm very pleased with the sound system (with my customized settings). The bass is really good IMO. When I have my volume up on a bass heavy tune I do get a vibration. However, I have pin pointed it to my sunglasses in the sunglass holder! When I rotate their position or remove them from the holder the vibration goes away.

The TLs have been notorious for having rear deck rattles. I figure it has to do with having the sub mounted under there plus the lack of plastic to metal cushioning.

One week old TLX 2.4 Tech, noticed some form of vibration in the rear deck area while listening to the ELS, very annoying. Heading to the service department this week for diagnosis. Will let you know the outcome....

Same. Specific song was Traphouse 3 by Gucci Mane. It used to bring my TSX alive but the TLX sounds like it's struggling. I don't know if I should bring it in or just live with it. I'm sure an advisor will tell me to just turn my music down.

Hi There,

I bought a TLX about a month ago and I'm having the same rattling noise in the back speakes. I have taken the car back to Acura several times and they can't figure out how to fix it. What happened with yours?

I was having the rear deck rattle as well. Based on a suggestion from a previous post, I downloaded a tone generator app for my phone and used that to figure out at which frequency the rattle would occur. I used "Audio Test Tone Generator" on the Android and hooked it up via Bluetooth audio. Mine would rattle at 50 Hz. Also, if i smacked the plastic part of the trunk next to the bottom latch, it would also rattle.

I took it to the dealer this past week. No questions asked, they fixed it so I assumed this is a known issue. The notes on my service order say "REAR TRUNK INSULATE REAR TRUNK SPRINGS" and "INSULATE THE REAR INTERIOR DECK LID".

Everything is great now. No rattle at any frequencies.

I also have this back rattle on my 2016 ILX with aspec/tech that occur with certain frequencies. I took it into acura and they found nothing the first time. Do you think if i took the info above they'll fix what you got fixed assuming the TLX ELS plastic part set up maybe similar to the ILX?

Not if you are playing a CD. The amp on mine for AUX for my MP3 player is definitely far less powerful than the amp for CD. CD at 20 makes the car hop up and down.
