mild vibration at red light (in gear)
mild vibration at red light (in gear)
I did noticed when I test drove couple of I4 TLX (including mine), there was mild constant/noticable vibration. it didn't bother me so much that time.
Today, I was stuck in a traffic and I got annoyed by it. i felt tired by it.
It is only noticeable while sitting at idle at a traffic light. when I put the gear in N, it's a bit better.
It is a mild but I can feel it in the steering wheel and in the seat.
Even my wife's 08 MDX with 100K mile doesn't vibrate like this.
Is it common for the TLX?

I had mixed feeling for this i guess.
I wished it's a common problem. at the same time that means I have to live with it...which will be challenging for me...
Still I am glad Steve doesn't have any vibration.
I searched the web and CRV has similar vibration issues but with different reason (low RPM) than mine (my TLX RPM at idle in gear is around 800 to 900).
Well I guess I have to take it in to dealer once the body shop finishes their corrective work... Damn.. tired of all these fiasco...

Haha... Well... When I mentioned "someone getting into trunk of my new car"... most of my friends worried about blood stains on my new trunk liner.... Hmmm...

Maybe they didn't perform the idle learn procedure at PDI. You can do this yourself, it worked for me. I will post how its done. so easy.
Perform the Idle Learn Procedure
To ensure a steady engine idle, perform the idle-learn procedure after installing the No. 29 (10A) fuse. During PDI inspection.
NOTE: The PCM does idle speed adjustment; there is no adjustment screw. Idle-learn must be done
whenever you reset, update, or replace the PCM, or replace or clean the throttle body. It does not need
to be done after you erase DTCs with the HDS software on ETecH, or after the battery has been disconnected.
1. Make sure all electrical items (A/C, audio unit, defogger, lights, etc.) are off.
2. Start the engine with the shift lever in P, parking brake on, and hold the engine speed at 3,000 rpm until the radiator
fan comes on.
3. Let the engine idle for 10 minutes with the throttle fully closed.
You can turn the car off after 10 minutes. That's it! This is for ALL Honda/Acura's.

Thanks. I will definitely try that tomorrow morning!!

It seems that the vacuum pressure for the brake is not contained to the same extent as previous Acura's. The hard brake pedal feeling when the car has been out in the cold for hours has been reported previously and I do not believe that it is a fault, but it will be interesting to see what the shop reports. You can easily simulate the condition by pressing the pedal a couple of times with the engine off.

The 4cy does have a bit more vibration than the 6cy. I noticed this in my TLX compared to our Pilot. One question though, have you noticed that the brake pedal is very hard to push down when you start it after it has been sitting for a few hours or overnight? My TLX had more vibration than my TSX had, and I am having this brake pedal issue. The dealership thinks it is a vacumm booster, and it is in the shop for this right now. A vacumm leak would certainly cause the engine to be a bit rougher on idle. Just curious if you are having similar symptoms.

I will try tonight.. very interested to find out...thanks!
Yep, it's an I4. You will eventually get it at some point. Hell, I experience the vibration from time to time in my newer V6 Acuras. In this regards, I think only Lexus can give you a total smooth and vibration free experience. I've owned some older Lexuses, they were smooth even at 100K miles.

However, days like today with slippery snow... I am glad I was driving TLX though.
As far as the vibration, it seems a little better than before. Hard to tell if it is just me thinking it is better or not. The 4cyl does have a bit more vibration anyways, but it does seem like it is better than before. Unfortunately, the transmission still feels the same, but I didn't really expect any change to happen there.
