Might be done with Acura because of service

I've got a 2015 Acura TLX which I took to my local guy who works on honda/acura because emissions and parking break came on. He said the catalytic converter is bad and I need to get to Acura immediately my vehicle has 79,970 miles on it, I don't live close enough to get it to the dealer and stay under warranty. I contacted local dealer and they said to contact Acura Relations. I contacted Acura relations and they basically said after it's done they can review and determine what they will do then.

I told them I have to fly out of town tomorrow, for me to make it work I would need to tow car to them. Then use my wife's car so she'd be car less while I'm gone. All that because they can't say alright for that issue we will document it get it here as soon as possible and as long as that is what is wrong we will cover it under warranty.

I had the same thing happen with a Mercedes and the did exactly that, they said don't worry as long as you're less than a couple hundred miles over we won't have a problem and we have noted it in the system.

My family has had 7 new Acura's in the last 10 years, it's insane that customer service is that crap that they can't just do the right thing. I'm not saying it won't be covered, but for me to know with out a doubt it will be covered I have to tow it 50 miles and leave my wife and kid car less when I leave tomorrow. As minor as this may be, the fact there is no common sense to help a customer out at Acura makes me pretty determined to never buy another one and do my best to get friends to stop buying them. I was such an Acura fan but they want you to jump through hoops to get their mistakes fixed. I've seen others with this same problem which means they have a problem. I also had all my mud flaps lose paint which I didn't even bother going through this mess with because I was a little outside that warranty even though that's an obvious mfg defect. The car is only 2 years old. Seriously 150 miles will cost Acura dozens of cars and the copy and paste feature will blast this everywhere on the web. Booo Acura, we deserve better customer service!

I did call Acura, that's what the dealer recommended also. They said same thing as dealer, can't do anything until after it's diagnosed and repaired. I might expect that with a Kia or something, but if I buy a mid level luxury car I expect a little give. Literally just them saying we will give you an extra 100 miles to get it in if we find that the converter is bad. So now I take my second car to the airport and my wife and kid are without a vehicle for a couple days. Certainly if I did stick with Acura I wouldn't buy a new car ever again, the dealer alone should have said no worries we have you covered. It's my 3rd car from that dealer. Pretty sad customer service has gotten that bad, hopefully it's not across the board. I'm going vehicle shopping next week, but first going to duplicate this problem and see how the other mfg's I like deal with it.

I think the powertrain warranty ends after 70,000 miles, so you are already over the limit. But I agree, Acura should cover you with a good-will warranty. From their point of view though, Acura can't trust a mechanic they don't know. So the check-engine light came on? You should plug in an OBD-2 monitor, verify the code, and let Acura headquarters know what it is.

The catalytic converter is a part of the emission control system which has longer warranty. I think 8 years/80K miles.

Ya need to really read the post carefully or do some research before posting though. The OP is pretty mad and I totally understand his frustration. And your posting is helping either.

The right thing for the Acura dealership is to have the car towed to them and give him a loaner. Geeze, so much for "near luxury" image Acura is trying to build.

I had something similar and there was a TSB for a software fix, they applied it and the problem went away.

Here's a hair brain idea, have your wife drive you to the airport. Sounds like your main concern is leaving her without a vehicle... Minor inconvenience but there are ways around it. When you get back, tow the car to the dealer and have the issue resolved under warranty. Done deal. Coming to a forum and complaining will get you no where! Good luck getting it fixed.

Seems like it's never Acura's fault, easy fixes. What if it's not possible for her? Paid more, get the service if warranty is valid...simple. Rental car included.

Heres a question. Why would you buy a new car if you dont live close enough to a dealership making warranty work inconvenient for you? You kinda put yourself in this position, what if the car turned out to be a lemon from factory, you would've been screwed, and that's with any brand or dealer.
As for your cats, if they are defective and need to be replaced then there's federal emissions warranty thatll cover it. That warranty is like 7 or 8 years long.
If it's inconvenient for you to take your car in for warranty work then suck it up because the dealer doesn't care about your schedule.
They should provide rentals anyway.

So this post is pretty pointless, I’m not seeing a whole lot of common sense in it at all. So if you shouldn’t buy a car from a dealership that isn’t close to you, what should everyone in the country drive? You clearly didn’t read, inconvenience isn’t the problem. I found out about the problem Tuesday at 4pm, had to fly to New York Wed at 8 am. I couldn’t get around driving the car which would put me over the warranty because it’s 8 year 80,000 miles on that part. It’s about a company doing a shitty job caring for their customers, I’m bringing it in tomorrow and making the same type of call inquiry to Mercedes across the street. If they handle it better I’m swapping my car out, I have a busy life and I don’t have time for companies making me jump through hoops over 1-200 miles.

My wife is female obviously... and Asian... hopefully that’s enough said. I almost had a neighbor take me, but either way it wouldn’t make me feel different about how Acura handled things so that’ s kind of moot.

Well that's not prejudice at all... she has a license does she not? You're only making your problem worse.

And you think Acura isn't busy? You gotta give them something to work with, not expect them to work around your schedule to fix your problem just because you're "busy".
If that means you gotta tow the car to the dealership just to stay within warranty because it's far away then sometimes you just gotta bite the bullet.
The world is not a perfect place.

It's ok, Acura will bite the bullet when the time comes for a replacement. Each little step goes a long way. Acura's sales are decreasing, service is one of the few things left to make customers happy. One customer doesn't make a different, but a few start to add up. And the TLX does have a fair share of issues ....

Thats true, I could imagine what Acura's customer service had to go through because of that crappy ZF transmission and the dual screen layout. The TLX has been nothing but trouble for Acura and it's turning loyal customers away from the brand all together.

Uber? Acura will cover the repair IF they find it was not due to negligence...cheap fuel. If they gave you a loaner and then found out the issue was caused by some type of negligence would you be willing to pay for the use of the loaner? If so, then you might make that offer to them.
