H&R lowering springs making noise

Hello Everyone, About 2 months ago i got my H&R springs installed on my 2016 TLX. And recently they have been making a clicking/squeaking noise when i turn the steering wheel. It doesnt happen when i hit a bump or when im driving. Just if im stopped and turn the wheel left or right. Anyone else who have these springs have experienced this noise? If so is there a fix? Thanks for any help!

a clicking noise when turning the steering wheel left or right indicates an axle failure.

probably due to the fact that you did lower it.

I dont think its the axle. I know what that sounds like from my 3G TL when the axle went bad... Its not much of a clicking. Its more a squeaking/Creaking noise. I thought the springs were binding but it doesnt seem like it. I had someone turn the wheel as i listen. The springs rotate slightly as the wheel turns i believe thats normal. But it defiantly sounds like it was coming from the shock assembly. Maybe a bushing. Someone else from the TLX forum was experiencing the same noise and this is what he said "Yes, I think it is coil slap, when the soft part of the spring clanks onto itself. If we install the rubber spring isolators it would have been to the cure" He never tried them as it would be to much hassle to remove the springs just to have that installed. So im wondering if anyone else has had this problem and found that to be a solution.

^you solved your own problem!!!!!!

lets take a minute and think of whats going on....

if the installer did not install the rubber spring isolator, and the coil is slapping or hitting another piece of metal, you're going to get noise.
metal on metal.

its not metal on metal. Its more of a dry rubber noise.

i would not describe a dry rubber noise as a creak, click, or squeak.

this is going to be something SPECIFIC to your car, because aftermarket springs were installed on your car, making this an isolated problem just to your car.

you will need to find out if its coil slap (metal on metal)

or a dry rubber sound

It rained today and no more noise see attached video. I'm going to lift the car up tomorrow if the weather permits and take a closer look

So I finally found what the problem was. The coils from the springs are rubbing against each other causing the noise. Currently waiting a response from H&R too see what they tell me. You can see when the car is lifted and the springs are uncompressed where the springs are rubbing. Also when the springs are compressed you can see they touch against each other.

With the spring uncompressed you can see where it's rubbing

Are you sure your installer put the springs on correctly? The springs rubbing that much is definitely not normal. Looks to be installation error or the wrong springs or something

Yeah the springs are installed correctly. The lettering is facing the right way. And its seated properly. The Part number on the springs also match the part number for my car. It also makes sense that i wasnt getting the noise right after the installation. Because the springs werent settled yet. So as they settled thats when the springs started rubbing.

metal on metal contact.

its super obvious.. change a metal part out for an aftermarket metal part....
just a lesson, anything you do to the car will result in some kind of unwanted noise, vibration, or harshness.

if tinkering isnt something that you like to do; stay away from modding!

I love tinkering around I have no problem finding noises

My TLX made that sound when turning the wheel too after lowering it. It took the shop a long time before deciding it was the springs making that sound

I had only looked at the pictures before... I just watched the video now. I'd be pretty upset if my car sounded like that after lowering it. If the springs are installed correctly and other people have this same problem, seems like the stock shocks can't handle the drop and just compress causing the spring coils to rub on each other. I'm glad I bought the RSR coilovers now

TSB 15-006 - Clunk From Front Suspension When Driving at Low Speed Over Bumps or Turning

I think this is the problem, I had the same issue. My car is lowered on H&R springs also. But i read in the TLX forum another guy had same issue. My TLX was lowered at the dealership. They replaced 51670-TZ3-A01 1 RUBBER, FR. 48.07
51611-TZ3-315 1 S/ABS UNIT, R. FR. 256.21
51726-TZ3-A01 1 BEARING, FR. 21.52
51688-T2A-A01 1 SEAT, FR. SPRING 8.49

all of this and it didnt get rid of the problem, but didnt think it was the spring. They are going to do the bulletin tomorrow to see if it fixed the issue like it did in the other thread I read about. Try that before yanking that spring back off and sending it to HR first.

Hey bro, if u get the chance can you give us an update on how the solution worked for you. I just installed my H&R springs about a few days ago and I heard the noise off the bat. It's not excessive but just enough to have me worried lol. I also have a 2016 FWD 3.5 and only get the nouse when I turn the wheel (more when I turn right). How long did that tubing solution work or does it help eliminate the noise for good? Pls, help a brother out!! Thanks!

Its been a while since I lowered my 15’ AWD and haven’t heard this but I too had the same issue. I think you can buy or custom make some sleeves to go around the springs. Google search spring sleeves and you find it. I copied a site below for reference.
