Gotta Love Those Electronics

The latest: My '15 sat for three weeks when we were away and upon our return the trunk wouldn't open. The in-car button, the remotes and even the valet switch in the glove box, nothing. Thankfully on this forum there's the full manual for the TLX, all 545 pages. Instructions to open it manually were in the 500+ page range. It really is impressive for people nearby when we have to climb in the back seat and play with the valet key behind the headrest. Trying to reach a dealer now (we're in Canada with a U.S.-registered car). Sigh...

This goes along with the car not recognizing the in-my-pocket key to open the door 1 time out of 5, or the car seat when it defaults to Position 1 on occasion (short wife, I'm relegated to #2) The DCT shifts better after a couple of software updates BUT when coasting really slowly anticipating a light change it will SLAM into first gear with such force that it feels like the car was hit. Or the desire of the car to slam to a screeching halt (thankfully only a warning) when I approach the shadow of a bridge. There was another anomaly that I won't think of until a after I post this.

Awesome car but it has to go at the end of the lease. Unless I can somehow end the lease earlier.

I wonder if the battery died? Or low on voltage?

There should be a manual release in the trunk once you fold down the armrest and open the pass through to the trunk on the rear shelf with a neon green handle.

Sounds like an interference issue with your key, have any other keys or cellphone in the same pocket?

Sorry for the delay in replying - life happens. It turns out it was a recalcitrant glove box switch. I got mad and poked really hard a few times, on and off. Now it works. Sigh...

We're still seriously annoyed by the proximity sensor for the doors and trunk. It's the same for both fobs. Half the time it works, half the time I have to drop everything and dig into my pocket for the fob. One can open the door with either fob from a distance at any time. The car is les than two years old so I doubt it's the batteries. Sigh again...

This usually turns out to be phone too close to the fob. Has happened to me once or twice when I had my fob in my right front pocket and my phone on my waist.

Even happens to me with a magnetic money clip next to the fob.

Just for the heck of it I would change the FOB batteries because sometimes the age of the battery doesn't matter.

About a year ago when my wife's Lexus was a year old the FOB started acting up. Occasionally I would have to push the button to open the door because the car wouldn't pick up the FOB signal from my pocket, and other times it would work fine. Sometimes I couldn't open the cargo door unless I was next to it.

I assumed the battery was weak so I changed the battery and it has worked fine since.

A small experiment, still ongoing: I carry my iPhone 6 in my pocket, and when the fob sits outboard of the phone, the proximity sensor fails most times. But when the phone is outboard and the fob is on the thigh side the proximity sensing system works. So far.

I did get hit with the default-to-Position-1 thing again. The seat wants to crush me against the steering wheel, the radio settings are my wife's, not mine, and the nav map is flat. The situation was where the trunk was open but doors locked as my wife walked by with the grocery cart to the cart garage, then I unlocked the door with my proximity sensor. Sigh...

All of the manuals are available on Acura's owners site. Fastest way is Owner's Manual & Warranty | Acura | Acura Owners Site .

I may be a little dense but the only manuals that I see on this site are those that came with the car. Even Helms doesn't offer a shop manual (545 pages).

Thanks,

Ranger

Didn't realize you were referring to a service manual. Sorry.
