Failure to start twice in a month
Failure to start twice in a month
Hi, this is my first post on the forum, unfortunately its regarding an issue with my 2016 4 cylinder w/tech package.
twice now the car randomly failed to start, no power at all (just the clicking sound and blinking cluster) got a boost and started up fine, went immediately to my local garage, were they tested the battery, and apparently its near fully charged.
however they said its not the original battery (its a motormaster) and I bought the car used.
anyway, it was fine for 3 weeks til today, happened again. got another boost and it seems fine again.
Im wondering, should I replace the battery? I know these cars have a heavy electrical drain, so maybe the battery is lacking the necessary power? even though it shows near full charged.
BTW, both times I saw no warning whatsover.

Battery replacement should be the first thing to do - specially if the car is not under warranty - It's cheap and likely to solve your starting issue.
It's cheaper to purchase a new battery and change it yourself than to take it somewhere and pay them diag. fees etc and then full price for a new battery and labor to change it.
Try getting the battery with the most CCA that can fit.

These batteries last MAX 2 years in my opinion (in Southern California). I've gotten it replaced under warranty and each time, it's had the same issue as you. Blinking lights, click click click. Get the battery changed asap. I'm going to switch to optima yellow/red top to see if it'll last longer once mine fails.
PS, if you're near a costco, dont bother. They only have batteries for V6, not our I4s. https://www.costco.com/automotive-batteries.html

Replaced the battery yesterday morning and no failure to start as yet.
I couldnt find a suitable replacement with the same polarity (positive on the left) had to go with a right hand positive battery and flip the it around, it fits fine.
I got the OEPLUS 640 CCA which funnily enough came up as "compatible" at Canadian tire, even though it has the reverse polarity.
