Difference in LKAS and Road Departure

Can anyone explain the difference in these? When I go off the road my wheel will pull back and I get the warning of the car over the line on the MID. Is this LKAS? It is turned on. If so, what does the road departure system do? Or am I just confused lol

What you are experience is the RDM.

LKAS is activated by the control on the steering wheel, 5 o'clock position. This will keep you car in the middle of a lane with your hands off or only lightly on the wheel. It will do this for 15 seconds and will then flash a warning "Steering required". But it only works with good road markings.

Ok I thought that was it. But today when my ACC wasn't working I turned the main switch off and the acc and lkas green buttons on the MID went away but when I would go over the line it would still alert me. Maybe that was the road departure system? It does sometime pull r correct when it's not needed and other times does not. I guess that's normal for not so great roads?

It should be, the RDM button is located in the group of buttons to the left of the steering wheel.

From how I read the manual, if you're actively driving the car and deliberately steering, braking and accelerating it shouldn't resist your actions even if you cross a lane.

Braking and accelerating are only factors in the search for lane markings. When the markings have been detected, RDM will tug at the wheel if you cross a line without using the turn signal. Also when the markings have been detected and LKAS activated, the dotted lines in the MID turn solid. The feel of the steering wheel will be slightly mushy as the system is actively working to keep the car in the center of the lane.

I thought the beep when you cross a lane is LDW...if LKAS is turned on it'll also try to steer you back into your lane...all of this is done using camera to see road markings.

My understanding is RDM will try to save your ass if you literally are about to go off-road (as in, no road markings, just end of pavement into a ditch type of thing)

^ Most, if not all, of this was covered in this thread:

Unfortunately, many of these features are linked or seem to perform similar functions. Technically they are different, but might easily have been described as one all encompassing feature.
