Climate control fan is dead 2016 TLX SHAWD Advance

2016 TLX SHAWD Advance - Approx 52,000 miles (highway cruiser). Anyway, a few weeks ago I started the car and the climate control fan was dead, though the center display indicated it was on. For about the next 15 minutes while driving, I turned it on and off to see if I could get it to cycle on. Eventually, the fan did come on and appeared to be working normal. Problem went away for about a week, then the same thing happened. Today it appears to be completely dead, even started and turned off the engine several times to see if it would clear up. Have a dealer appt. Friday, not looking forward to it as its just out of warranty. Been a pretty reliable car so far, just had one door actuator replacement under warranty and everything else has just been routine maintenance.

Side note on the door lock actuators - These seem to fail regularly. Had a 2010 TL with 3 replacements and a 2012 TL with 2 replacements. Dealer said they were well aware of the failure rates and the replacement parts were designed better.

Unfortunately no. The fan seemed to be working fine on the day I took it in. The techs checked the car for a code, turned it off an on several times, and didn't find any issues. It has also worked fine since. The service advisor said to bring it back the moment it fails again, just so they can have a look. So I will do that.

Update - HVAC fan is completely dead. Will be stopping by the dealer some time this week to diagnose. Pretty busy at work, so not sure when. However the service advisor I talked to said anytime is fine. They should be able to diagnose and order parts, then set up an appointment to fix. Just thought this was a weird issue, this is my 5th TL/TLX and never had it before.

Chris,

Did you get this fixed? I'm having similar problems with my car. Was wondering what it was diagnosed as and how they fixed it and how much it cost to fix.

Thanks so much!

Its at the dealer today. Diagnosis is the blower and resistor need to be replaced. $750 plus tax and they tossed in a loaner. I should have it back tomorrow. Not something I would expect to fail under 3 years old, but out of warranty at 53K miles.

Ouch $750 just to replace a blower resistor on these new TLX?? This is why I'm afraid to replace my 2000 TL with anything newer and you're already out of warranty at 3 years 53k? Aren't Acura's warrantied for at least 4 years? Or is it only powertrain?

Both the resistor and blower motor were replaced for $750, the bumper to bumper warranty is 4 years or 48,000 miles. I was over on miles.

I just replaced mine on a 15 tlx.

The cover below the glove box pops off without screws and gives you full access to the blower.
3 screws and that was it.

I was was really worried about and didn’t want to take off parts of the car but it’s a 1/10 on the difficulty scale.

Oem blower was $60 online.

Clarification: I didn’t change the resister

the motor was making a noise at slower speeds.
When starting the car, it would randomly take a few minutes to start.
I was pretty sure it was just the blower.

I bought a 2015 CPO tlx in January.....44k miles.Blower started making noise 2 weeks after we picked up the car and eventually just quit.
The service rep emailed me a pic of the thing and it looks like a $25.00 part.
Have owned Hondas/Acuras for 35 years and NEVER had to replace one of these.
I'm sure the quality of this (and other) parts are not what they once were.

The part itself appears relatively cheap, plus an hour's worth of labor to install it:

According to my local Acura dealer here in IL, they would have charged $177 for blower motor replacement.....out the door.

HELP WITH 2015 Acura TLX A/C

Hey guys, and ladies, So.

The same thing just happened in my friend's car. 2015 Acura TLX. She said she turns on the AC and it doesn't blow. I walked her through the process of checking the AC Fuse, which I assume is for the blower fan. She said she can hear the compressor coming on so that's good news.

Does anyone have pictures on how/what panel to remove to access the blower fan power connection? I would like to remove it and unplug the blower fan and turn it on to check for power. Is this possible? Or does it have to be connected? I ask because someone mentioned the resistor? Where is the resistor located? and is this to verify its plugged in?

I am trying to help her so she doesn't have to pay a crapload of money.

Thanks, everyone!
