climate control

I keep harking on about this - but it's really the only thing that bugs me about the car. Right now if you have it on auto, temp set at 22 (I rarely needed more than 19 in winter in any other car I have owned but TLX is cold otherwise, it constantly cycles between feet only and feet and shield, is always adjusting fan speed - and when on feet only you can air air hissing through the shield vents. This is all when temps are below freezing. at normal temps it works OK. Does anyone else's do this? And why should it need to be at 22 to be comfortable - this is wearing four layers of clothing.

My 2.4 8spd DCT does the EXACT same thing. I brought it in to the dealership to have them check out the system and I was told it was working as expected. They compared it to a new TLX on the lot. I used to drive a 04' TSX and I was happy with a setting of 68 deg F but know i am not happy unless the setting is at least 71. Honestly, I have moved on from this topic as I am trying to work with Acura on a fix for the transmission shifting bugs. Good luck! If you find out more information on the climate control abnormalities and get a fix please let us know!!

On a SH-AWD Elite (with Calgary weather) I haven't noticed any issue with the climate. I usually set it to 18-20C and its standard operation is:

-Fan is off as the engine warms up
-Fan goes to high speed and air flows to floor and windshield
-As cabin warms up, the fan speed is steadily reduced (on particularly cold days, this takes quite a bit longer to reach even at highway speeds)
-Finally, fan switches to floor only and the fan speed is at two bars and doesn't change after that

On my PAWS Elite (Toronto weather) I do not have an issue. Control is set to 23-23C year round. Starting from cold conditions -15C or lower it blows with one sound, then 5 minutes later the tone changes, and another 5-10 minutes it changes to a lower speed and then is inconspicuous. Likely something similar to the post by accord1999. There is no cold air blowing at my face, and I have no concerns about fan speed noise or hissing (maybe it is the same as the OP, but it does not bother me).

Similar behavior in mine. It will blow from the dash and floor as its warming up and then switch to the floor but the dash vent seldom seems to close off properly and there's always some air hissing out of it (rather loudly) until the fan slows down.
Overall I have to keep the temp in the TLX 5 degrees warmer than in my MDX to feel about the same inside.

On the really cold days I got in the habit of turning it off Auto and switching to the option on the touch screen for the uppper and lower vents once the car is warmed up. She will blast warm air and heat the car up like a champ. Otherwise I get the same lower vent and upper defroster behaviour which tends to not feel as comfortable as it feels like the air coming out of the defroster is cool.

My 13 Accord EXL worked much better on the Auto setting for sure.

Totally agree, I don't find anything "automatic" about the climate system in this car other than the things it seems to to or many times, not do on it's own with or without my input.

I encourage everyone with a concern to contact Client Relations at 800 382 2238.

I feel as if I'm in the Acura Catch 22 cycle....two dealers tell me they can't find anything wrong with the HVAC or seats, and Client relations tells me they DON'T KNOW OF A PROBLEM AND ARE NOT WORKING ON A SOLUTION and advise me to take it back to a dealer to have them "write-up a service ticket". Acura doesn't seem to understand that they will loose customers playing that game. I referred the supervisor to the multiple threads on this form regarding the HVAC and seat heater controls. Interesting to note that Acura says it's "very familiar" with this forum, but "unaware" of these problems.

Thanks for the responses. Seems my experience is typical. and justifies my assertion that the car was not tested in road conditions in very cold climates. I bumped into another tlx owner at work ysesterday - previous TL owner. He had identical experience too, and also hated the heated seat controls - what is wrong with toggle switches for chrissake. Honda has similar issue with the Pilot and Odyssey - electrical pushes switches that do not stay on. should be like fit civic crv accord. solid toggle switches.

I just am coming out of a cold winter in Winnipeg and the auto climate system worked well. I generally have the temp at 19 or 20 Celsius and the car heats up quickly and stays that way. Noticeably better than my 2014 Altima SL auto climate system.

FYI: My SH-AWD/TLX/Tech climate control is great
Even though it was 40-45* in NYC over the weekend, the auto fan mode
kept the defrost/heat setting at 3 bars, while it was raining
always had to keep adjusting it in my previous Acuras
Guess it was compensating for the interior moisture condensation

Seems its modus operandi is to alternate between "feet and shield" and feet only until it is close to (or what it thinks is close to) requested temp and then gradually back off the fan. And my typically 20 minute commute on cold days is not long enough for it to settle down. On longer journeys and if starting out at above zero temps it is not annoying. On very cold days it is just irritating as it is for ever changing its mind and huffing and puffing. I should set a short cut as someone suggested for those days.

I still need to set it at 22 or 23 whereas in past cars 18 or 19 has been adequate. I guess I can live with it....just one of those things.
