I took my 2015 TLX 2.4 Tech in for a service to the dealership last week and had the Spark Plugs changed, drive belts changed, and a valve adjustment. Later that evening, I filled up at my local Chevron and noticed that the range reached only 384 miles. In the years that I have owned the car, every time I have filled up the range immediately goes to the mid-to-high 500 mile mark. As a drove home that night, the range increased only to 443 miles (photos attached).
This morning, I popped open the hood and noticed that (to me at least) the engine sounds like a Model-T with its clicking sounds. (video attached)
I may or may not be crazy, but before I decide to go down the road with the dealership to explain the situation, I wanted to get opinions from experts on this forum page who might be able to help explain to me what I am experiencing. While driving home (did not take this photo) Right after I filled up and sat for a few minutes before driving home.
The range means nothing as far as a problem. Its simply an estimate based on previous driving conditions. If you drive always city than your estimate will be lower than if you drive always highway. It was lower because it was just being worked on and was probably idling a lot.
Now if the valves are noisy then they either didn't do a very good job of adjusting them or maybe didn't adjust them at all.
My normal daily driving is 90% highway and has accounted for 90% of my total mileage on the car which is close to 153,000 miles.
This is going to sound crazy, but after the timing belt service and valve adjustment all of my honda's/acuras since 2002 have gone slightly down on MPG right after and come back up after 1-2k miles of driving. Even with my new 2006 MDX the MPG crept up slowly over the first 5K miles. Same with the 07 MDX.
