2018 TLX Apple Car Play Problem
Hi.
I got a 2018 Tlx,
5 months ago, love this car,
But i was having problems with the carplay, Dealer told me to get apple cables and update my phone software,
I did, and still the same problem,
So after i talked to the Service Manager,
And told him to fix it, or i would talk to the GM,
They took the car in, and replaced car play cables from the inside unit, replaced connectors from car play unit and the car play unit also, Cost $5k +.
It took a month for them to fix it, they opened the dash, center console and remove seats.
Now everything is working, like it should.
So fellas, if are having problems with the carplay make them fix it.
We are paying for our car, is not free.

Yikes that's a scary thought to see how expensive these new features cost to fix when they break. Imagine being out of warranty 7-8 years from now finding that you need to drop 5 grand just to get car play to start working again. Hopefully this was just a one off but it worries me how reliable these new features are in these new cars.

I did say it would be expensive to fix the TLX, lots of tech parts in it. Not just Germans that cost an arm and a leg. Not saying they cost the same, but fixing an Acura is no longer cheap per say.

$5K to fix - Ouch. Put an entire CarPlay enabled system, also Android Auto capable, in my little car for around $600.

From the service techs. Apple CarPlay is going to continue to have problems because of the programming. It might act right now, but when the next update comes out(and even before then), you'll run into the issue again. It's because Apple doesn't share their info with anyone. That's why their emblem isn't on anything BUT an Apple product. We've been having people come into the dealership with the same problem. Brand new Odyssey. $45k-50k van. Apple CarPlay problems. It'll continue to happen.

I had the problem with my Android first... though it was a phone issue. Upgraded to Apple iPhone X - Problems continue. Works fine for a bit then it loses connection and starts a never ending search loop. System shuts down over and over again.

Apple CarPlay
No problems here; hopefully, none in the future
Siri/IPhone SE/128GB/TMobile works great
Can finally, receive & respond to text messages, while driving, flawlessly, by Voice commands
Wish they would integrate Waze, in the Apps
Great sound from Apple music, & Amazon music
Phone calls are crystal clear, sending, & receiving

I have a lowly iPhone 6 which sometimes does this but I think it's my phone which is sometimes laggy. I restart the phone and everything works fine after that.
