TLX NAV Archaic system

Am I the only one who sees the TLX Navigation as completely archaic compared to others?

I was in a Toyota Carolla last night and the NAV system in that car costing thousands less is FAR superior. Like light years ahead. What the hell!!?

For one you can simply say "find the nearest McDonalds" after touching the speak button once only and it gives you a list. TLX you'd have to go through a hell of a lot menu options before you can only type that in manually. Also, it finds nothing! I'm still using my iPhone's Maps app with far better success. That Toyota Carolla was impressive! Lots of other better NAV related features as well.

Also in Canada when speaking an address you have to press talk, say a letter and press talk, say a letter. One letter at a time! Really!?

Tech package with NAV was a waste of money. I'll never use it while I have my iPhone.

Toyota Carolla!!?

C'mon Acura!!!

on my 3g TL I can say "find nearest fast food restaurant" and it'll give me a list. I'm pretty sure the TLX can do what my car can and more lol

It certainly hasn't evolved much in the last 12 years. I don't know that a lot of others are THAT much better though. Some are, some aren't, and it doesn't seem to correlate at all with how upscale the brand is supposed to be.

But can you say "Find nearest Wendy's"? I feel like that's the sort of AI that the OP is demanding.

Can you say "find the nearest Applebee's."?

The list it gives you is restricted to 5 items while driving. Which makes "Find the nearest restaurant" utterly useless. You'd have to pull over and scroll to "places" and hope and pray what you looking for is even in their list.

Ridiculous, given what's out there in a car costing thousands less. Not just the Corolla either from what I've seen.

Anyway... Maybe one day

Other than the NAV, I love this car.

I will agree, the Nav is terrible. It functions ok, but it is straight ugly.

I wanted an Audi, almost exclusively for the Google Maps Nav with how gorgeous it is, and how easy it is to use.

I don't expect them all to be that way, but man it just feels a decade old and out of place in a 2015 car that is supposed to be focusing on technology.

I have a strong suspicion you'll be able to replace the Nav with Google or another maps program from your phone soon enough.

Is Apple CarPlay simply a software update for the car?

And for the record I can say "Find the nearest Chinese restaurant" and it works. You do have to push the button twice though.

I suspect not being able to find a McDonalds might actually be a built-in feature

You've missed the point entirely.

I do know the GS350's Nav pissed me while in Dallas. I was supposed to meet friends at an Applebee's that was ear the area I was in.. No way. it wouldn't do it. We had to resort to Google Maps.. so, this isn't uncommon.

Siri on my iPhone is my goto for any specific place. That's why Apple CarPlay would be great if Acura is willing/able to update our software to accommodate.
