Tlx base model owners HDD question

Just picked up my TLX i4 base the other day, from everything I see the base audio is supposed to have the built in HDD, but it doesn't show up on my menu, so does the base model have that or not?

I will be curious to test the MP3 integration on the TLX....On my 4G TL, it was soooo poorly done and I pray they have done a better job on the TLX.

It's great with my iPod Nano and good with a USB stick. Sound quality, as expected, is better from an original CD compared to an mp3.

I am still investigating procedures/programs to create a DTS-CD from Blu-ray concert performance or DVD-A disc. These will have the best quality sound.

This is from Acura's web site. Regarding the standard audio system. "
Experience clear, dynamic sound with the Acura Premium Audio System with hard disk drive (HDD) media storage and seven speakers. Easily viewed and operated from the center touch screen (ODMD™), the system gives you direct access to all your audio sources. Steering wheel controls can also handle most primary functions. A wide variety of available audio sources includes:" so standard system is the premium, but not the ELS. So just wondering if anyone with the base model has the HDD. (I know the tech has the ELS )

Wait...so it's not on the base model? Everything I've read shows a HDD as a part of all models, too. That's lame and completely misleading! Sorry it's not in yours, Keifer.

HDD only on Tech, Advance

2015 Acura TLX: Interior - Honda.com

Hard Disk Drive (HDD) Audio
TECH and ADV TLX audio systems feature a Hard Disk Drive (HDD) that can copy music tracks from pre-recorded CDs, enabling customers to store many CDs worth of music on-board for easy access. The system will not copy music from burned CDs or from USB flash drives. The audio system in the TLX and TLX V-6 offers 15GB of storage space. Based on music files measuring an average size of 4.2MB per song at a 128kbps bit rate, approximately 3,500 songs can be loaded into the 15GB system (approximately 175 CDs). The HDD-based system records music at 6-times that of the original music track time. Two recording quality settings (192 kbps or 128 kbps) are available. The automatic-recording default setting can be changed to manual if desired.

So you can just plug a USB stick with MP3s into the console?

Yep. You can select folder and track. Tack info and any associated image (tiny window) is displayed. I think you can do a search, but will have to check.

Does the hard drive offer any utility at all though? My understanding was that the only way to access it was ripping directly from CDs. I don't own any CDs, and I don't plan to start buying them, so I don't imagine I'll get to use my HDD much. Sort of your standard car-company-uses-outdated-tech-in-the-radio situation...

You are correct. It is my impression that the navigation system requires an HDD, so as it is there it is also used for ripped CD storage.

I do have a moderate CD collection but have not plans to rip them in the car, but am investigating making DTS-CD's for use in the car.

I have found sources that show how to do it. I have quite a few DVD-As. I will also try out some methods to create DTS-CDs.

Here's one link I found
As for creating a DTS cd from a 2 channel CD.. that is very time consuming and not very effective. You can get a bit more "depth" but not real channel separation.

That is one of the option that I am exploring, but it is a manual process with a lots of step. All processes/steps that produce DTS files need purchased software. There are a couple of other software programs that may be a bit easier and this is what I am checking out. Most of them have a 30 day free trial.

There was a guy on the 3G forum, can't recall his name (Doberman?) that created a program that took 2 channel .wav(or flac) files and created DVD-A files. It is possible to take those than create a DTS CD but yes, it is a time consuming process.

I made my own Pink Floyd DVD-As that came out pretty good.

In the Canadian models, the HDD is listed as included only with the ELS audio , not in the base models. If it's not there in the US base, and the Acura site says it is, they have a problem. Hopefully it's not a misprint.

It was Adobeman, and I used his process to make DVD-A's for my TL. That procedure will not work for the TLX as it does not play DVD-A discs. A process is need to convert 5.1 channel DTS tracks to 44.1KHz/16-bit. I have only found paid software to do this, and will be investigating which one is best (time and cost).

I should have been more clear.. Adobeman's (thanks!) program can make the multichannel iso file that can be used to create the DTS output.

It does not do the down sampling conversion required for the DTS-CD.

There really is no easy way to do it.. it will be a process no matter what is used.

I also noticed that. My base 2.4L TLX did NOT come with HDD while all Acura web site & brochure explicitly state that HDD is a standard feature in base model. What a ripoff.

I got this from Acura:
We appreciate your interest in Acura along with the opportunity of responding to your 2015 TLX audio inquiry. Please accept our apologies for any inconvenience this has caused. Our client’s satisfaction is of utmost importance to us and it is our pleasure to note your valuable comments. Our office has confirmed the 4 cylinder and V-6 base models include a single disc player, however the Hard Disc Drive (HDD) is only included in the Technology and Advance models. We will notify the appropriate party of the reference feature in our website and make the necessary changes.

So I guess the question is, can you add the storage. Does it use SD? SSD? USB? MSATA?

Can you replace the existing HD with a larger one if you got the tech package?

Thanks for confirming, Yea, feel totally mislead / ripped off, all of their online info states it has the HDD, even my dealer assured me that it does have an HDD. (of course they were looking at the website also). Like boe_d said, would be good to know if we could add it.

I don't want to create a problem for a company that has provided me with three great cars, but you have a case for misleading advertising. Get a screen print of the website if it still exists and make a case to your dealer or corporate for some compensation, like free or discounted service for the next two years of some free accessories.

Keep a cool head but be firm that this was one of the features that sold you on this model.

Chances are, I'd want to replace whatever HD they supplied anyways.

I think I will pursue it, a mistake is one thing misleading is another. I do have at least 3 screen shots / copies stating in different areas that it has an HDD.
