Remote start for TLX
Hope I post in the right place.
What do you think of Acura remote starter? I just want to carry one key. Or if order online, what is the the part number? I'm planing to have installed by dealer for my 2017 TLX base model 4cyl. With discount and labor and tax, it's $478
dumb question: which one is mine?
4 door BASE 9 Speed Automatic Transmission
4 door BASE2.4 DCT

4 door Base 2.4DCT is yours if you have the 4cyl model.
For the part and labor only $478 sounds like a great deal to me. The remote start does 1 thing and 1 thing ONLY. Set the cabin to 72 degrees. So on a hot day it will turn the AC on, on a cold day the heater. Thats it, your radio, headlights, etc do not turn on. Just to get the engine warmed up
good luck!

For that price, you're definitely better off going OEM. It's an awesome feature, I love it. I can remote start my car from my office, which is great. I even put a garage door opener next to my keys at home, and sometimes I open the doors, remote start the car, and then go after my coffee is ready. Warm car, hot coffee, life is good.

OEM remote start is nice. I got it installed on my wife's 2016 MDX Tech. Just bought it off eBay from an Acura dealer for around $285. Then got my sales rep to get one of the techs to install it on the side for $60. Doing the same for my 2016 TLX Tech...

I have a VIPER installed remote start in my current TL that I am trading in for a new TLX Advanced (comes with remote start). Should I transfer the VIPER so I am still able to start my car from my cell phone?

I don't have remote start installed in my TLX (yet) but I believe the OEM definitely does not have the smartphone app start capability. I considered Viper's options but I think I just like having some extra car keys lying now that my wife and i are growing our family.

However, if I still lived in the high desert in California and had a 0.5 to 0.75 mile walk back to my car in 100+ degree weather every day from April to October, I might rethink the value of having the cell-enabled remote start...

My dealer quoted me right at $600 for everything installed. I was seriously considering it and then my transmission started acting crazy. They ordered the parts and are politely pressuring me into following through with the remote start, but I refuse until I get a true fix on the transmission.

I just got mined installed and it worked pretty well. I think I was able to get mine started about 150ft, with cars and trees surrounding my car. Questions for those have it as an add on, what do you guys do with the original remote? Do you take the battery out or just leave it alone?

they're backup keys and if you're not willing to folk the cash for extra batteries I suppose backup batteries too. having 4 sets of keys for a single car does seem like overkill and very few situations demand it i'm sure but i can think of a few. for instance family with a new teenager driver (not yet ready for a separate car) or parents of toddlers with less than ideal sleep very much misplacing keys, wallets, kid, etc...

OEM remote start is awesome... Can start from 3 stories up. As to the advice about install - Don't ask a salesman to have a technician install "on the side" unless you work for the dealer. It puts them in a an unfair position, the tech could get into trouble for doing this and if something happens to your car you are not covered under the dealerships umbrella insurance policy. $250 is the dealers cost on that part, you would be better off buying it at that online price and have your dealer install it paying labor only, that way you are covered if something happens.

Also found out if you press the shift release button on the shift knob before holding down the brake and the start button, the car will shut off. Neat security feature to have lol

Compustar makes T harness remote starts that are vehicle specific. I have a DC2 brain with HA7 harness in my 15. Ive always had aftermarket but then again I'm an installer. The T harnesses are not intrusive its all plug and play except for the parking light turn on. The range on my remote is 1 mile and its also 2 way meaning it confirms each command I send. Ive found that most people who dont see the value in aftermarket either are fearful of touching their car or have had a bad experience. You really just have to know quality product from cheap product and have a good installer. But to each their own.

Really? Had no idea. Don't think I'd ever have to do that, but could be useful in the future, though I'm willing to bet I'd forget lol
